Multi-agent BugHerd task negotiation

Give your agents access to `update_task` and `list_tasks` so they can debate priority changes. One agent argues for speed while another considers technical debt. They reach a decision based on the actual task data retrieved from the server. This prevents individual agents from making unilateral changes to your project backlog.

Coordinate BugHerd project creation

Use `create_project` within a group chat to ensure all requirements are met before a new project starts. Agents audit the project specs and challenge each other's assumptions. This consensus-driven approach ensures your project structure is vetted. The agents use `list_users` to assign roles correctly based on the current team structure.

Debate BugHerd comments with AutoGen

Agents review feedback from `list_comments` to decide if a task requires a new sprint or a simple fix. They challenge the sentiment and push for clear, actionable outcomes. Once they agree, the agents use `add_comment` to document the final decision. It brings clarity to your team discussions through structured deliberation.

Setup guide

Set up BugHerd MCP in AutoGen

Prerequisites

  • Python 3.10+ installed
  • autogen-ext[mcp] package
  • Active Vinkius subscription with a valid endpoint token
  1. 1

    Install AutoGen with MCP

    Run pip install "autogen-ext[mcp]" autogen-agentchat. The MCP extension includes mcp_server_tools for stateless tool access.

  2. 2

    Fetch tools from the MCP

    Call mcp_server_tools(SseServerParams(url=...)) with your Vinkius endpoint. Replace [YOUR_TOKEN_HERE] with your token from cloud.vinkius.com.

  3. 3

    Run your agent

    Pass the tools to AssistantAgent and call agent.run(). The agent invokes BugHerd tools and returns structured results.

agent.py
from autogen_ext.tools.mcp import SseServerParams, mcp_server_tools
from autogen_agentchat.agents import AssistantAgent
from autogen_ext.models.openai import OpenAIChatCompletionClient

server_params = SseServerParams(
    url="https://edge.vinkius.com/[YOUR_TOKEN_HERE]/mcp"
)

tools = await mcp_server_tools(server_params)

agent = AssistantAgent(
    name="BugHerd_assistant",
    model_client=OpenAIChatCompletionClient(model="gpt-4o"),
    tools=tools,
)

result = await agent.run("List recent BugHerd data")
print(result.messages[-1].content)

Common questions about BugHerd MCP in AutoGen

You pass the tool list to the AssistantAgent constructor. All agents in your group chat then have access to the same methods for interacting with your tasks.
They can use the `update_task` tool if you grant them permission. The agents will discuss the change before executing the update.
Vinkius manages the authentication via a secure endpoint. No credentials are hard-coded, and access to your project data is limited to the server's scope.
They engage in a conversation where they propose and critique actions. They only call the tools once they reach a consensus in their internal chat.
Data is processed in memory during the agent debate. We strip all sensitive task labels and user information once your conversation session ends.
