Multi-Agent Monitor Triage

`list_monitors` feeds the current alert state into a room full of specialized AutoGen agents. A security agent sees a spike in failed logins and demands an immediate lockdown. Meanwhile, an operations agent checks the same monitor and argues that the spike correlates with a known load test. They debate the severity until they reach a consensus on whether to page the on-call engineer.

AutoGen Maintenance Negotiation

`list_downtimes` gives your agents the scheduled maintenance windows so they plan deployments accordingly. The deployment agent proposes a rollout time, but the reliability agent pushes back because it overlaps with a critical SLO window. They negotiate a new time slot based on the recurring schedule data. Once agreed, the system proceeds with the deployment without human intervention.

Datadog MCP Server Incident Debate

`get_monitor` pulls the historical status changes for a flapping alert. One agent reviews the threshold values and suggests increasing the tolerance to prevent alert fatigue. A second agent queries the recent deployment history and argues the flapping is a real regression. They deliberate over the historical context before deciding whether to adjust the threshold or revert the code.

Setup guide

Set up Datadog MCP in AutoGen

Prerequisites

  • Python 3.10+ installed
  • autogen-ext[mcp] package
  • Active Vinkius subscription with a valid endpoint token
  1. 1

    Install AutoGen with MCP

    Run pip install "autogen-ext[mcp]" autogen-agentchat. The MCP extension includes mcp_server_tools for stateless tool access.

  2. 2

    Fetch tools from the MCP

    Call mcp_server_tools(SseServerParams(url=...)) with your Vinkius endpoint. Replace [YOUR_TOKEN_HERE] with your token from cloud.vinkius.com.

  3. 3

    Run your agent

    Pass the tools to AssistantAgent and call agent.run(). The agent invokes Datadog tools and returns structured results.

agent.py
from autogen_ext.tools.mcp import SseServerParams, mcp_server_tools
from autogen_agentchat.agents import AssistantAgent
from autogen_ext.models.openai import OpenAIChatCompletionClient

server_params = SseServerParams(
    url="https://edge.vinkius.com/[YOUR_TOKEN_HERE]/mcp"
)

tools = await mcp_server_tools(server_params)

agent = AssistantAgent(
    name="Datadog_assistant",
    model_client=OpenAIChatCompletionClient(model="gpt-4o"),
    tools=tools,
)

result = await agent.run("List recent Datadog data")
print(result.messages[-1].content)

Common questions about Datadog MCP in AutoGen

Use the mcp_server_tools function with a StreamableHttpServerParams object. Pass the resulting tool list directly to your AssistantAgent constructor.
Yes. Any agent equipped with the tools can call query_metrics. They share the retrieved time-series data in the group chat context.
You define the rules in your system prompt. Typically, a group chat manager requires consensus before allowing an agent to execute the mute_monitor tool.
The Vinkius infrastructure scales automatically. If five agents request different dashboard configurations simultaneously, the system handles it without queuing.
The MCP integration runs in an ephemeral container that exists for exactly one session. It burns down immediately after the agents finish their debate, leaving zero persistent traces of your agent versions or active tags.
