Find Signals Across Platforms

Look for answers across platforms, not just inside one tool. A Gemini agent can `query_metrics` from Datadog and cross-reference those timestamps with deployment logs you already have in BigQuery. This is where Gemini's long context window shines. Your agent can hold the Datadog results and the BigQuery results in its context at the same time to find correlations you would otherwise miss.

Automated SLO Reporting for Google Cloud

Automate your SLO reporting across Datadog and Google Cloud. An agent using this MCP server can periodically run `list_slos` and `list_downtimes` from Datadog to check your compliance status. Because Google ADK is native to the ecosystem, the agent can then take action in GCP. If an SLO is breached, it can trigger a Cloud Function, post to Google Chat, or create a work item in your project management tool.

Large-Scale Event Triage

Let your agent find the needle in the haystack. It can pull a huge event history using `list_events` from Datadog, grabbing thousands of entries at once. Instead of processing that data in small chunks, a Gemini model can analyze the entire stream in its 1M+ token context window. It can spot subtle patterns, identify cascading failures, or group related alerts without needing complex code.

Setup guide

Set up Datadog MCP in Google ADK

Prerequisites

  • Python 3.10+ installed
  • google-adk package (pip install google-adk)
  • Active Vinkius subscription with a valid endpoint token
  1. 1

    Install Google ADK

    Run pip install google-adk to install the Agent Development Kit. MCP support is included via the McpToolset class.

  2. 2

    Connect via SSE transport

    Use McpToolset.from_server() with SseServerParams pointing to your Vinkius endpoint. Replace [YOUR_TOKEN_HERE] with your token from cloud.vinkius.com.

  3. 3

    Create an LlmAgent

    Pass the returned mcp_tools list directly to LlmAgent(tools=mcp_tools). The ADK maps each MCP tool to a native Gemini function call — no manual schema definitions required.

  4. 4

    Run with any Gemini model

    The agent works with any Gemini model (gemini-2.0-flash, gemini-2.5-pro, etc.). Copy the full example on the right to get started with Datadog tools in your ADK agent.

agent.py
from google.adk.agents import LlmAgent
from google.adk.tools.mcp_tool.mcp_toolset import McpToolset
from google.adk.tools.mcp_tool.mcp_session_manager import SseServerParams

# Connect to the MCP via SSE
mcp_tools, exit_stack = await McpToolset.from_server(
    connection_params=SseServerParams(
        url="https://edge.vinkius.com/[YOUR_TOKEN_HERE]/mcp"
    )
)

# Create your agent with auto-discovered tools
agent = LlmAgent(
    name="Datadog_agent",
    model="gemini-2.0-flash",
    instruction="You have access to Datadog tools via MCP.",
    tools=mcp_tools,
)

Common questions about Datadog MCP in Google ADK

Install `google-adk` and create an `McpToolset` instance pointing to the Vinkius MCP server URL. You pass this toolset into the `tools` list when you initialize your `LlmAgent`.
Yes, that's what it's for. For example, an agent can get host information from Datadog with `list_hosts`, then use native Google Cloud tools to check that host's IAM permissions or network firewall rules.
Yes. The `McpToolset` constructor accepts a `tool_names` filter. You can pass a list of strings to expose only specific Datadog tools, like `search_logs` and `query_metrics`, to a particular agent.
The server returns structured data from Datadog. Your Google ADK agent can make multiple calls, like `list_events` and `list_monitors`, and feed all the combined results into the model's context for a more complete picture.
Your agent handles data like host metadata, SLO definitions, and event titles from Datadog. This MCP server runs in a dedicated V8 Isolate sandbox on Vinkius, and all communication is handled through a single, revocable API token.
