How to Use the GBIF MCP in Cline
Tell Cline to build a biodiversity dashboard. It'll fetch data from the GBIF MCP Server and write the code for you.
Works with every AI agent you already use
…and any MCP-compatible client
Connect GBIF MCP to Cline
Create your Vinkius account to connect GBIF to Cline and route execution through our secure gateway. The platform manages server hosting, runtime updates, and security layers. Configuration requires no manual server provisioning.
Generate Code with Live Species Data
Give Cline a task: "Create a React component showing observation points for the blue whale." It calls `search_gbif_species` for the taxon key, then `get_gbif_occurrences` to fetch the coordinates. Cline then writes the component file, imports a mapping library, and feeds the live data directly into your code. You just watch it work and approve the final diff.
Write Tested API Clients with Cline
Ask Cline to "scaffold a Python script to get species data from GBIF." It won't just give you a code snippet. It uses the GBIF MCP Server tools to understand the data structures from `get_gbif_species` and others. Then it writes the script, adds error handling, and even generates a test file that confirms your new code works as expected. It's a complete, ready-to-commit implementation.
Resolve Taxonomy Inside Your Editor
You're in the middle of writing a data model and need the full taxonomic tree for an orchid. Just highlight the word and ask Cline. It connects to the MCP Server and runs `search_gbif_species`. The full lineage, from Kingdom to Genus, is dropped right into your code as a comment or a JSON object. No context switching, no opening a browser.
