…and any MCP-compatible client
Connect GBIF MCP to Cursor
Create your Vinkius account to connect GBIF to Cursor and route execution through our secure gateway. The platform manages server hosting, runtime updates, and security layers. Configuration requires no manual server provisioning.
Automate taxonomic research in Cursor
Call `search_gbif_species` directly from your editor to verify scientific names while writing your logic. It returns the full taxonomic tree so your code accounts for specific genus or family groups. This keeps your implementation accurate by using real-time biological data. You stop relying on hardcoded strings and start pulling live taxonomy.
Fetch occurrence records for data models
The `get_gbif_occurrences` tool lets your agent pull raw observation data for your data pipelines. You define the region, and the tool returns the coordinates for your analysis. It handles the heavy lifting of querying 2.4 billion records so your script can focus on processing the results. Your agent receives clean data ready for ingestion.
Retrieve specific species metadata
Use `get_gbif_species` to pull detailed info on any taxon key found during your search. It provides common names and status updates to populate your application interfaces. This MCP Server acts as a backend for your biodiversity app. Your code gets the exact data structure it needs without manual lookups.
