Multi-agent payroll review in AutoGen

Assign one agent to fetch `get_payroll` data and another to audit it. They debate the findings to ensure accuracy before any final action. This setup catches anomalies that a single agent might miss. The conversation between agents acts as a built-in check for your HR operations.

Coordinate HR tasks with AutoGen agents

Use a specialized agent to manage `list_time_off_policies` while another handles `list_employees`. They negotiate to resolve scheduling conflicts automatically. This approach simulates a human team working together. You set the goals, and the agents deliberate to reach a consensus.

Negotiate company policies in AutoGen

Let agents analyze `list_departments` and `list_locations` to propose structural changes. They debate the impact of these changes based on the data returned by the tools. Your agents challenge each other's assumptions using the live data. This ensures the proposed decisions are grounded in reality.

Setup guide

Set up Gusto MCP in AutoGen

Prerequisites

  • Python 3.10+ installed
  • autogen-ext[mcp] package
  • Active Vinkius subscription with a valid endpoint token
  1. 1

    Install AutoGen with MCP

    Run pip install "autogen-ext[mcp]" autogen-agentchat. The MCP extension includes mcp_server_tools for stateless tool access.

  2. 2

    Fetch tools from the MCP

    Call mcp_server_tools(SseServerParams(url=...)) with your Vinkius endpoint. Replace [YOUR_TOKEN_HERE] with your token from cloud.vinkius.com.

  3. 3

    Run your agent

    Pass the tools to AssistantAgent and call agent.run(). The agent invokes Gusto tools and returns structured results.

agent.py
from autogen_ext.tools.mcp import SseServerParams, mcp_server_tools
from autogen_agentchat.agents import AssistantAgent
from autogen_ext.models.openai import OpenAIChatCompletionClient

server_params = SseServerParams(
    url="https://edge.vinkius.com/[YOUR_TOKEN_HERE]/mcp"
)

tools = await mcp_server_tools(server_params)

agent = AssistantAgent(
    name="Gusto_assistant",
    model_client=OpenAIChatCompletionClient(model="gpt-4o"),
    tools=tools,
)

result = await agent.run("List recent Gusto data")
print(result.messages[-1].content)

Common questions about Gusto MCP in AutoGen

They use a conversation loop to critique each other's tool calls. An agent might challenge the result of `get_employee` if it contradicts other available info.
Yes, the McpToolAdapter allows every agent in your group chat to access the same toolset. They share the context of the Gusto API calls.
You should configure an agent to perform validation as a primary step. The agents must agree on the data returned by `get_payroll` before proceeding.
No, the Vinkius endpoint token handles the connection. Your agents focus entirely on the debate and the task execution.
The server runs in a zero-trust sandbox. Every request to `list_employees` is isolated, ensuring that only necessary data is visible to the agent negotiation.
