Stream infrastructure health to your UI

The `list_uptime_monitors` tool lets your Vercel AI SDK app pull current infrastructure health data and stream it straight into a Next.js frontend. You don't need to build custom API polling logic or deal with stale state. The AI client calls the MCP Server, formats the JSON response, and pushes the results to the DOM as they arrive. When a user clicks for more details, `list_uptime_reports` fetches the historical ping data. Your Edge Function processes the historical latency metrics and renders a live chart instantly. Users see exact downtime windows without waiting for a loading spinner.

Build on-demand reputation checks

Your application can execute `check_ip_blacklist` to verify if an IPv4 address is currently blocked by major spam filters. This operation takes a few minutes on the backend, but Vercel AI SDK handles the async wait state naturally. The moment the results land, the UI updates with the exact spam lists flagging your IP. Domain reputation works exactly the same way through `check_domain_blacklist`. If a customer complains about bounced emails, they can type their domain into your chat interface. The agent triggers the tool and streams the exact mail delivery issues directly into the view.

Vercel AI SDK MCP Server control

Using `add_uptime_monitor` allows your users to configure new tracking endpoints directly from your chat interface. They just tell the agent the target URL and contact ID. The agent formats the required JSON payload and provisions the monitor on HetrixTools instantly. You can also handle scheduled downtime by calling `set_maintenance_mode` through the chat. A user types that they are taking a server offline for patching. The agent sets the mode to 2 for maintenance with notifications or 3 for silent maintenance, preventing false alarms from waking up your pager.

Setup guide

Set up HetrixTools MCP in Vercel AI SDK

Prerequisites

  • Node.js 18+ and a TypeScript project
  • ai + @modelcontextprotocol/sdk packages
  • Active Vinkius subscription with a valid endpoint token
  1. 1

    Install dependencies

    Run npm install ai @modelcontextprotocol/sdk plus your preferred model provider (e.g. @ai-sdk/openai).

  2. 2

    Create the Streamable HTTP transport

    Use StreamableHTTPClientTransport with your Vinkius endpoint URL. Replace [YOUR_TOKEN_HERE] with your token from cloud.vinkius.com.

  3. 3

    Discover and use tools

    Call mcpClient.tools() to auto-discover all HetrixTools tools. Pass them directly to generateText() or streamText() — no manual schema definitions needed.

  4. 4

    Works with any model provider

    Swap openai("gpt-4o") for any AI SDK provider — Anthropic, Google, Mistral. The MCP tools work identically across all supported models.

index.ts
import { experimental_createMCPClient as createMCPClient } from "ai";
import { StreamableHTTPClientTransport } from "@modelcontextprotocol/sdk/client/streamableHttp";
import { generateText } from "ai";
import { openai } from "@ai-sdk/openai";

const transport = new StreamableHTTPClientTransport(
  new URL("https://edge.vinkius.com/[YOUR_TOKEN_HERE]/mcp")
);

const mcpClient = await createMCPClient({ transport });
const tools = await mcpClient.tools();

const { text } = await generateText({
  model: openai("gpt-4o"),
  tools,
  prompt: "List recent HetrixTools transactions",
});

console.log(text);
await mcpClient.close();

Common questions about HetrixTools MCP in Vercel AI SDK

Install @ai-sdk/mcp via npm. Initialize the connection using createMCPClient with your Vinkius HTTP endpoint, then pass mcpClient.tools() into your streamText function.
Yes. Blacklist checks take a few minutes to process. The SDK manages this async operation and streams the text response to your frontend once the API returns the data.
Vinkius handles the underlying authentication. You just configure the authProvider in your Vercel AI SDK client setup to pass the right user tokens to the server.
You will leak memory and leave open HTTP connections hanging in your Edge Functions. Always call mcpClient.close() when your text generation finishes.
The MCP server only processes the specific IPv4 addresses, domain names, and contact IDs you send through the tools. Vinkius runs this isolated in a V8 sandbox that destroys itself immediately after returning the blacklist status, leaving no local cache of your infrastructure targets.
