How to Use the IBM Quantum MCP in Google ADK
Deploy Gemini agents using Google ADK to run and monitor quantum circuits on IBM Quantum hardware.
Works with every AI agent you already use
…and any MCP-compatible client
Connect IBM Quantum MCP to Google ADK
Create your Vinkius account to connect IBM Quantum to Google ADK and route execution through our secure gateway. The platform manages server hosting, runtime updates, and security layers. Configuration requires no manual server provisioning.
Discover IBM Quantum processors via Google ADK
`list_backends` provides your Google ADK agent with a direct list of active IBM QPUs and simulators via this MCP interface. This prevents execution failures by matching the exact physical layout of the target IBM machine with Gemini's long-context reasoning.
Submit quantum circuits using Gemini reasoning
`submit_job` sends your circuit payloads directly to IBM Quantum backends through this MCP Server. If Gemini detects that an IBM job is queued behind hundreds of other tasks, it uses `cancel_job` to pull the execution.
Analyze quantum execution results inside Google ADK
`get_job_result` retrieves the final IBM execution data, including shot counts and state measurements, directly into your Google ADK runtime. By calling `list_jobs` and `list_providers`, your Gemini agent tracks historical runs across different IBM allocation hubs.
Set up IBM Quantum MCP in Google ADK
Prerequisites
- Python 3.10+ installed
-
google-adkpackage (pip install google-adk) - Active Vinkius subscription with a valid endpoint token
- 1
Install Google ADK
Run
pip install google-adkto install the Agent Development Kit. MCP support is included via theMcpToolsetclass. - 2
Connect via SSE transport
Use
McpToolset.from_server()withSseServerParamspointing to your Vinkius endpoint. Replace[YOUR_TOKEN_HERE]with your token from cloud.vinkius.com. - 3
Create an LlmAgent
Pass the returned
mcp_toolslist directly toLlmAgent(tools=mcp_tools). The ADK maps each MCP tool to a native Gemini function call — no manual schema definitions required. - 4
Run with any Gemini model
The agent works with any Gemini model (
gemini-2.0-flash,gemini-2.5-pro, etc.). Copy the full example on the right to get started with IBM Quantum tools in your ADK agent.
from google.adk.agents import LlmAgent
from google.adk.tools.mcp_tool.mcp_toolset import McpToolset
from google.adk.tools.mcp_tool.mcp_session_manager import SseServerParams
# Connect to the MCP via SSE
mcp_tools, exit_stack = await McpToolset.from_server(
connection_params=SseServerParams(
url="https://edge.vinkius.com/[YOUR_TOKEN_HERE]/mcp"
)
)
# Create your agent with auto-discovered tools
agent = LlmAgent(
name="IBM Quantum_agent",
model="gemini-2.0-flash",
instruction="You have access to IBM Quantum tools via MCP.",
tools=mcp_tools,
