Autonomous Fax Workflows in Windsurf
The `send_fax` tool lets Cascade transmit documents as base64-encoded strings without manual intervention. You give Cascade a PDF, and it converts the file, packages the metadata, and sends the payload to the iFax API in one go. If a transmission fails, Cascade doesn't stop to ask you what to do next. It automatically triggers `resend_fax` or checks the queue, handling errors on its own so you don't have to babysit the process.
Real-Time Status Tracking with this MCP Server
The `get_fax_status` tool queries the live delivery state of any sent document. Windsurf reads this status to determine if a transmission succeeded, failed, or is still pending in the telecom queue. For failing transmissions, Cascade uses `cancel_fax` to stop stuck jobs before they waste your API credits. It then pulls your history with `list_faxes` to check that the queue is clean before attempting another run.
Local Document Management
The `download_fax` tool pulls incoming documents directly into your Windsurf workspace via the MCP connection. Cascade identifies incoming faxes, downloads the files, and organizes them into your local directory structure automatically. This removes the need to log into a web portal to grab your files. Your autonomous agent handles the retrieval, updates your local index, and notifies you when the document is ready to read.
