Query global port data with Google ADK

List every active harbor worldwide using `get_nautical_ports`. It filters by country so your agent can narrow down regional logistics fast. Your Google ADK agent processes these lists alongside your BigQuery datasets. You get a unified view of world ports right in your Cloud environment.

Scale maritime analytics with Gemini

Feed massive nautical charts into your agent's long-context window. Call `list_nautical_charts` to pull current data for any geographic sector. Gemini reasons over this data to suggest route adjustments. It saves you from manual chart cross-referencing.

Monitor port status from your terminal

Keep tabs on system health using `check_api_status`. Your Google ADK agent verifies connectivity before it tries to pull traffic stats. It ensures your cloud-native agents don't hang on dead connections. You get a reliable bridge between your code and global port status.

Setup guide

Set up NavAPI MCP in Google ADK

Prerequisites

  • Python 3.10+ installed
  • google-adk package (pip install google-adk)
  • Active Vinkius subscription with a valid endpoint token
  1. 1

    Install Google ADK

    Run pip install google-adk to install the Agent Development Kit. MCP support is included via the McpToolset class.

  2. 2

    Connect via SSE transport

    Use McpToolset.from_server() with SseServerParams pointing to your Vinkius endpoint. Replace [YOUR_TOKEN_HERE] with your token from cloud.vinkius.com.

  3. 3

    Create an LlmAgent

    Pass the returned mcp_tools list directly to LlmAgent(tools=mcp_tools). The ADK maps each MCP tool to a native Gemini function call — no manual schema definitions required.

  4. 4

    Run with any Gemini model

    The agent works with any Gemini model (gemini-2.0-flash, gemini-2.5-pro, etc.). Copy the full example on the right to get started with NavAPI tools in your ADK agent.

agent.py
from google.adk.agents import LlmAgent
from google.adk.tools.mcp_tool.mcp_toolset import McpToolset
from google.adk.tools.mcp_tool.mcp_session_manager import SseServerParams

# Connect to the MCP via SSE
mcp_tools, exit_stack = await McpToolset.from_server(
    connection_params=SseServerParams(
        url="https://edge.vinkius.com/[YOUR_TOKEN_HERE]/mcp"
    )
)

# Create your agent with auto-discovered tools
agent = LlmAgent(
    name="NavAPI_agent",
    model="gemini-2.0-flash",
    instruction="You have access to NavAPI tools via MCP.",
    tools=mcp_tools,
)

Common questions about NavAPI MCP in Google ADK

Use McpToolset with your server URL. Pass this set into your LlmAgent configuration to expose the maritime functions.
Absolutely. Use the tool_names filter in your McpToolset setup to expose only what the agent needs for its specific task.
It supports both Stdio and HTTP. Pick the transport that matches your current Google Cloud infrastructure requirements.
Run the `check_api_status` tool from your agent. It confirms if the server is up before your logic proceeds to query traffic.
Your port distance calculations and route searches stay ephemeral. The server clears session state after each request, protecting your operational data.
