MCP Server: Read Database Tables

Use `list_tables` to see every table available in a ToolJet Database. Then, run `query_table` to select data using SQL syntax. The Copilot Chat Agent can use this live data directly within code suggestions. It’s important because it gives the entire team access to the same real-time database context without manual setup.

Automate Processes with ToolJet

The `trigger_workflow` tool lets your AI client kick off a complex process by firing a webhook. This is perfect for generating code that initiates external automation sequences. It moves beyond simple data retrieval; the agent executes actions against the integrated systems.

Write Code to Store Data (ToolJet)

Need to save user input? The `insert_row` tool writes a new record into your ToolJet Database table. You pass it the data, and the row is created. This capability lets developers quickly scaffold database interaction functions right inside VS Code.

Setup guide

Set up ToolJet MCP in VS Code Copilot

Prerequisites

  • VS Code 1.99 or later with GitHub Copilot extension
  • Active Vinkius subscription with a valid endpoint token
  1. 1

    Open MCP configuration

Open the Command Palette (Cmd+Shift+P / Ctrl+Shift+P) and run "MCP: Add Server". Select HTTP (Streamable) as the server type. VS Code will create .vscode/mcp.json in your workspace.

  2. 2

    Add the ToolJet MCP

Paste the JSON snippet shown on the right into your .vscode/mcp.json. Replace [YOUR_TOKEN_HERE] with your endpoint token from cloud.vinkius.com.

  3. 3

    Switch to Agent mode

Open Copilot Chat (Cmd+Shift+I / Ctrl+Shift+I) and switch to Agent mode using the dropdown. MCP tools are only available in Agent mode — they do not appear in Edit or Ask modes.

  4. 4

    Verify the connection

In the Copilot Chat input, type # to list available tools. You should see the ToolJet tools listed. Try asking: "List my recent ToolJet transactions" and Copilot will invoke them automatically.

Common questions about ToolJet MCP in VS Code Copilot

You create a `.vscode/mcp.json` in the project root, which shares the configuration across your engineering team. This ensures every developer gets access to the same tools automatically.
Absolutely. You query tables with `query_table` and then build code using that live context. The MCP Server makes sure all team members see the same, current data.
You enable Agent mode in Copilot Chat. This activates the tools defined by the MCP Server—like `trigger_workflow`—allowing the AI to run operations and inject results into your code.
It handles structured records from the ToolJet Database tables. The agent uses these row values—the actual contents of the database—to write functional, context-aware code.
You can use `insert_row` to add records or, for reading purposes, rely on `query_table`. The MCP Server exposes the necessary tools for both reading and writing structured database content.
