Manage databases, run queries, and trigger workflows

Windsurf lets you query data directly using `query_table`. Your Cascade reads the schema, figures out what tables exist via `list_tables`, and runs the select statement automatically. You get the raw data back instantly.

Write data into ToolJet databases

Need to log results or update records? Just call `insert_row`. This tool writes a new row directly into any specified table in the ToolJet database. It's simple, direct write access.

Automate backend processes with workflow triggers

Don't stop at data retrieval. You can trigger complex automation by calling `trigger_workflow`. This sends a webhook to your ToolJet Workflow endpoint, kicking off multi-step business logic without needing an active UI. It just fires the event.

Setup guide

Set up ToolJet MCP in Windsurf

Prerequisites

  • Windsurf IDE installed (macOS, Windows, or Linux)
  • Active Vinkius subscription with a valid endpoint token
  1. 1

    Open MCP configuration

Click the Cascade assistant icon in the sidebar, then click the hammer icon (🔨) at the top of the panel. Select "Configure" to open ~/.codeium/windsurf/mcp_config.json.

  2. 2

    Add the ToolJet MCP

Paste the JSON snippet shown on the right into the mcpServers object. Replace [YOUR_TOKEN_HERE] with your endpoint token from cloud.vinkius.com.

  3. 3

    Refresh MCPs

Go back to the hammer icon (🔨) in Cascade and click "Refresh". Windsurf will detect the new server. No full restart is needed — the connection is hot-reloaded.

  4. 4

    Verify in Cascade

Start a new Cascade conversation and ask something like "Show my ToolJet payment history." If connected, Cascade will call the ToolJet tools directly. You will see a green dot next to the server name in the MCP panel.

Common questions about ToolJet MCP in Windsurf

You use `query_table` to read current data, and then you can follow up by calling `insert_row`. Cascade manages this two-step sequence for you. It's all done within the autonomous agent flow.
While Windsurf is primarily an IDE, its ability to chain actions makes it great for local testing of pipelines. You can test your database interactions before committing them to a full deployment pipeline.
The server manages standard relational database structures. When using `query_table`, you operate on structured table data, and when inserting, you specify field values for the new row.
Run the `list_tables` tool. It provides a list of all available tables within your configured ToolJet database, so you know exactly what data sources are ready for querying.
You can trigger any existing ToolJet Workflow using `trigger_workflow`. This means running anything from simple notifications to complex backend API calls, all via the MCP Server.
