Debating Messaging Strategy with AutoGen

An agent debate can model communication challenges. One agent might call `get_message_details` to check compliance, while another uses `list_phone_numbers` to find the best contact point. The system then debates which number and message content is safest for sending an SMS.

Consensus on Voice Call Initiation via MCP Server

Don't just make a call; debate it. Agents can check `list_calls` to review recent activity, then vote on whether the required information is available before one agent calls `create_voice_call`. The outcome is consensus-driven calling.

Auditing Account State with AutoGen

For sensitive operations, agents must agree. One specialized security agent uses `list_api_keys` to flag potential risks, while a performance agent checks `get_account_info` for operational limits. The system reaches a final decision on proceeding.

Setup guide

Set up Twilio MCP in AutoGen

Prerequisites

  • Python 3.10+ installed
  • autogen-ext[mcp] package
  • Active Vinkius subscription with a valid endpoint token
  1. 1

    Install AutoGen with MCP

    Run pip install "autogen-ext[mcp]" autogen-agentchat. The MCP extension includes mcp_server_tools for stateless tool access.

  2. 2

    Fetch tools from the MCP

    Call mcp_server_tools(SseServerParams(url=...)) with your Vinkius endpoint. Replace [YOUR_TOKEN_HERE] with your token from cloud.vinkius.com.

  3. 3

    Run your agent

    Pass the tools to AssistantAgent and call agent.run(). The agent invokes Twilio tools and returns structured results.

agent.py
from autogen_ext.tools.mcp import SseServerParams, mcp_server_tools
from autogen_agentchat.agents import AssistantAgent
from autogen_ext.models.openai import OpenAIChatCompletionClient

server_params = SseServerParams(
    url="https://edge.vinkius.com/[YOUR_TOKEN_HERE]/mcp"
)

tools = await mcp_server_tools(server_params)

agent = AssistantAgent(
    name="Twilio_assistant",
    model_client=OpenAIChatCompletionClient(model="gpt-4o"),
    tools=tools,
)

result = await agent.run("List recent Twilio data")
print(result.messages[-1].content)

Common questions about Twilio MCP in AutoGen

Agents can initiate a debate: one agent calls `list_recordings` to get available SIDs, and another uses `get_recording_details` to check the content. They then negotiate whether or not a specific recording is relevant to the current task.
Yes. An agent can debate the risk of using `delete_message`. The consensus process ensures that multiple agents review the irreversible nature of this tool before any action is taken.
Agents use `get_usage_records` to gather billing data. They then debate whether the current usage exceeds predefined limits, leading to an agreed-upon mitigation strategy.
You can run `lookup_phone_number` and let agents discuss the viability of the retrieved E.164 number. They might debate if the number is appropriate for a specific marketing campaign.
Yes, it supports both stdio and Streamable HTTP transports. This flexibility lets your agent run processes whether you're in the terminal or building a streaming backend service.
