Manage outgoing voice calls for coding context

The `create_voice_call` tool lets your AI client initiate an outbound call. You can build functions around this, providing a caller ID and target number right in your code logic. Don't forget you can also stop a call mid-stream using `cancel_active_call`. This makes testing voice workflows part of your development cycle.

Send SMS messages and manage message records

Need to test an API endpoint for texting? Use `send_sms`, giving it the required E.164 numbers. Furthermore, you can use `delete_message` on a record if testing requires clearing the data. Your agent handles both sending and deleting. It's important that your code recognizes this deletion is final.

Retrieve specific Twilio message metadata

Getting details about an existing text? The `get_message_details` tool pulls all the necessary metadata for a specific SMS. You can also list recent activity using `list_messages`, giving your code context on what's been sent or received. This real-time data flow is where Cursor shines.

Setup guide

Set up Twilio MCP in Cursor

Prerequisites

  • Cursor installed (macOS, Windows, or Linux)
  • Active Vinkius subscription with a valid endpoint token
  1. 1

    Open MCP Settings

Go to Cursor Settings → MCP or open the Command Palette (Cmd+Shift+P / Ctrl+Shift+P) and search for "MCP: Add Server".

  2. 2

    Add the Twilio MCP

Cursor will create or open .cursor/mcp.json in your project root. Paste the JSON snippet on the right. Replace [YOUR_TOKEN_HERE] with your endpoint token from cloud.vinkius.com.

  3. 3

    Enable Agent mode

Open Composer (Cmd+I / Ctrl+I) and switch to Agent mode using the dropdown at the top. MCP tools are only available in Agent mode.

  4. 4

    Verify the connection

Ask Cursor something like "List my recent Twilio transactions." If the MCP tools are loaded correctly, Cursor will call the Twilio tools automatically. You can also check Settings → MCP for a green status indicator.

Common questions about Twilio MCP in Cursor

Your agent uses `create_voice_call` to write the necessary logic. It accepts the caller ID, receiver number, and TwiML URL parameters directly into your code context.
Yes, you can include `delete_message` in your code flow. Your agent recognizes this as an irreversible action when running the script.
The server provides `list_phone_numbers`, so your agent can pull a list of all owned numbers directly into your current code file for reference or validation.
You use `lookup_phone_number` by passing the E.164 formatted number string. Your agent then injects the resulting data object right into your active function.
This server interacts with SMS message records, specifically allowing retrieval of detailed metadata for a given message ID.
