Calling Management on the MCP Server

You can start an outbound call using `create_voice_call`, specifying the necessary caller ID, receiver number, and TwiML URL. To shut down a call mid-stream, just invoke `cancel_active_call`. This keeps your workflows precise—you know exactly when the connection ends.

Monitoring Twilio with Pydantic AI

Need to check account status? Call `get_account_info` for overall master account details. The MCP Server also lets you view all recent SMS activity via `list_messages`. If a number is critical, run `lookup_phone_number` with the E.164 format to pull its specific metadata.

Deleting and Retrieving Records

Permanently remove an SMS message record by calling `delete_message`. Since this action is irreversible, Pydantic AI's validation helps you confirm the operation. Need to know what was said? Use `get_recording_details` after providing a recording SID (RE-prefixed).

Setup guide

Set up Twilio MCP in Pydantic AI

Prerequisites

  • Python 3.10+ installed
  • pydantic-ai-slim[fastmcp] package
  • Active Vinkius subscription with a valid endpoint token
  1. 1

    Install Pydantic AI with FastMCP

    Run pip install "pydantic-ai-slim[fastmcp]". The FastMCP toolset replaces the deprecated MCPServerHTTP class with full protocol support.

  2. 2

    Configure the FastMCPToolset

    Pass a JSON-style config dict to FastMCPToolset with your Vinkius URL. Replace [YOUR_TOKEN_HERE] with your token from cloud.vinkius.com. Supports Streamable HTTP, SSE, and Stdio transports.

  3. 3

    Create and run your agent

    Pass the toolset to Agent(toolsets=[toolset]) and call agent.run(). Swap openai:gpt-4o for any supported model — Anthropic, Google, Mistral, or Groq.

agent.py
from pydantic_ai import Agent
from pydantic_ai.toolsets.fastmcp import FastMCPToolset

toolset = FastMCPToolset({
    "mcpServers": {
        "twilio-mcp": {
            "url": "https://edge.vinkius.com/[YOUR_TOKEN_HERE]/mcp"
        }
    }
})

agent = Agent(
    "openai:gpt-4o",
    toolsets=[toolset],
    system_prompt="You have access to Twilio tools.",
)

result = await agent.run("List recent Twilio transactions")
print(result.output)

Common questions about Twilio MCP in Pydantic AI

Pydantic AI validates every single MCP response against strict Python models at runtime. If the API returns anything unexpected, your agent fails loudly—no silent corruption allowed.
You can send new messages using `send_sms` and retrieve detailed metadata on existing ones via `get_message_details`. The whole process remains type-checked.
The `list_calls` tool provides a manifest of recent voice communications. Because you're using the MCP Server, this list is automatically validated against your defined schema.
Yes, calling `get_usage_records` pulls detailed billing and usage statistics. This ensures that financial data coming back to your agent is structured correctly before you act on it.
The server touches message, call, and recording data. Specifically, `list_recordings` provides a list of Recording SID strings, while `get_message_details` handles SMS metadata.
