Debating API Definitions

Multiple agents can debate the best way to list or create an endpoint using `list_apis` and `create_api_definition`. One agent might argue for a new resource, while another checks existing definitions. The consensus mechanism ensures all required API parameters are considered before deployment.

Negotiating Access Policies

Agents can role-play security roles. A 'Security Agent' flags risks when reviewing policies via `get_policy`, while a 'Performance Agent' might push for stricter rules using `create_policy`. The outcome is not just a policy, but a debated and agreed-upon, optimized rule set.

Managing Credentials Through Debate

You can set up agents to argue over key lifecycle management. One agent might suggest using `delete_key` for cleanup, while another verifies the need first with `get_key`. The final decision on whether to proceed relies on multiple checks and consensus among your specialized agents.

Setup guide

Set up Tyk MCP in AutoGen

Prerequisites

  • Python 3.10+ installed
  • autogen-ext[mcp] package
  • Active Vinkius subscription with a valid endpoint token
  1. 1

    Install AutoGen with MCP

    Run pip install "autogen-ext[mcp]" autogen-agentchat. The MCP extension includes mcp_server_tools for stateless tool access.

  2. 2

    Fetch tools from the MCP

    Call mcp_server_tools(SseServerParams(url=...)) with your Vinkius endpoint. Replace [YOUR_TOKEN_HERE] with your token from cloud.vinkius.com.

  3. 3

    Run your agent

    Pass the tools to AssistantAgent and call agent.run(). The agent invokes Tyk tools and returns structured results.

agent.py
from autogen_ext.tools.mcp import SseServerParams, mcp_server_tools
from autogen_agentchat.agents import AssistantAgent
from autogen_ext.models.openai import OpenAIChatCompletionClient

server_params = SseServerParams(
    url="https://edge.vinkius.com/[YOUR_TOKEN_HERE]/mcp"
)

tools = await mcp_server_tools(server_params)

agent = AssistantAgent(
    name="Tyk_assistant",
    model_client=OpenAIChatCompletionClient(model="gpt-4o"),
    tools=tools,
)

result = await agent.run("List recent Tyk data")
print(result.messages[-1].content)

Common questions about Tyk MCP in AutoGen

Agents treat the available functions—like `update_policy` or `delete_key`—as actionable tasks. They discuss which function to call, what arguments to pass, and why it's the optimal next step.
Yes. You can task two agents: one drafts the update (`update_key`), and a second agent reviews the potential blast radius of that change before it executes, ensuring safety.
Consensus ensures no single assumption drives action. For instance, if one agent wants to `create_api_definition` and another thinks it's redundant, they must debate until a final, agreed-upon definition is ready.
Absolutely. Agents can collaborate on security goals: one reviews the current state via `get_policy`, and another recommends a change using `update_policy`.
The server touches API keys, policies, and definitions. Since multiple agents are involved, they generate complex audit trails detailing *why* a specific credential was accessed or modified.
