Run Patent Searches via the MCP Server

When you need to audit intellectual property in a pipeline, start by running `search_patents`. You pipe this command into your shell script, and it executes the search against the USPTO API. The output is plain text, making it perfect for piping directly into other tools or writing it to a log file within a Docker container.

Retrieve IP Details using Claude Code

To get full details on a specific asset, you call `get_patent_details` or `get_trademark_details`. These commands take the required serial number as input and output the complete record. This makes it ideal for CI/CD steps that need to validate specific data points before deployment.

List Classification Codes using MCP Server

Need a full list of available patent classification codes? Just run `list_patent_classes`. This tool provides the comprehensive catalogue you can then use in subsequent scripting logic. This data is critical for scripts that need to dynamically build filters or validation steps.

Common questions about USPTO API MCP in Claude Code

You simply run `search_patents` in your terminal. The MCP Server handles the connection to the USPTO Open Data API, and the result is immediately available via standard output (stdout) for piping into subsequent shell commands.
Yes. You run `search_trademarks` from your CLI. This command executes against the USPTO API, giving you a list of US trademarks that you can then process through scripting logic.
The server exposes patent numbers, trademark serial numbers, and classification codes. Since it's running headless, all this data is handled purely via command-line input/output.
It's built for automation. Whether you run it in a GitHub Action or an SSH session, the connection remains stable, allowing your scripts to reliably pull data from the USPTO API.
Run `check_api_status`. This tool checks the operational status of the entire USPTO Open Data API. If it fails, your script stops early, saving you time and pipeline failure costs.
