Search Patents and Trademarks using the MCP Server
Need to check out a competitor's intellectual property? Start by running `search_patents` or `search_trademarks`. Cascade figures out which search you need, executes it against the USPTO API, and hands you the results. It doesn't stop there. If those searches return specific numbers, Windsurf can automatically pick up that context and run a deep dive using `get_patent_details` to pull every single piece of information you need.
Check API Status with the MCP Server
Before starting any big audit, you gotta know if the service is up. Use `check_api_status` to confirm that the USPTO Open Data API is actually running. This quick check saves you time and keeps your entire workflow moving. If the status looks good, it means everything's green for the rest of your IP checks. You can then confidently proceed with structured searches like `list_patent_classes` knowing the connection point is solid.
Get Specific Patent or Trademark Data in Windsurf
Found a patent number you want to investigate? Run `get_patent_details` by feeding it that specific number. You get all the full details right there, no guessing required. Similarly, if you're looking at brand names, just use `get_trademark_details`. It pulls every piece of information associated with a given trademark serial number through the MCP Server.
