Autonomous Contact Management in CrewAI

You assign a specialized Agent to handle contact lists. This agent uses `list_whatsapp_contacts` to research all available users in the Wati CRM. A second, monitoring Agent then takes this list and analyzes it for gaps or needed updates. This role-based specialization means one agent gathers raw data, while another specializes purely in analysis, giving you a powerful, structured operation.

Coordinated Messaging using CrewAI

The workflow requires multiple agents. Agent A researches the user's chat history using `get_whatsapp_chat_history`. Agent B then uses that context to decide if a free-text message via `send_session_message` is appropriate, or if a formal template is needed. This collaborative model simulates human decision-making. You don't write complex IF/THEN blocks; you define roles and let the crew figure out the best sequence of tool calls.

Campaign Monitoring with CrewAI

An escalation agent can be assigned to monitor campaigns. This agent uses `list_broadcast_campaigns` to check for active or stalled operations. If a campaign hasn't run in 48 hours, the moderator agent is triggered to take action. This provides continuous operational oversight. You are building autonomous monitoring systems that don't require constant human checking.

Setup guide

Set up Wati MCP in CrewAI

Prerequisites

  • Python 3.10+ installed
  • crewai package (pip install crewai)
  • Active Vinkius subscription with a valid endpoint token
  1. 1

    Install CrewAI

    Run pip install crewai to install the framework. MCP support is built-in via the mcps parameter.

  2. 2

    Add the MCP URL to your agent

    Pass your Vinkius endpoint directly to the mcps list. Replace [YOUR_TOKEN_HERE] with your token from cloud.vinkius.com. CrewAI handles tool discovery and caching automatically.

  3. 3

    Kick off your crew

    Create a Crew with your agent and tasks. Call crew.kickoff() — the agent will automatically invoke Wati tools as needed.

crew.py
from crewai import Agent, Task, Crew

agent = Agent(
    role="Wati Analyst",
    goal="Access and analyze Wati data via MCP.",
    backstory="Expert analyst with direct Wati access.",
    mcps=[
        "https://edge.vinkius.com/[YOUR_TOKEN_HERE]/mcp"
    ],
)

task = Task(
    description="List recent Wati transactions",
    agent=agent,
    expected_output="A summary of recent activity",
)

crew = Crew(agents=[agent], tasks=[task])
result = crew.kickoff()
print(result)

Common questions about Wati MCP in CrewAI

You assign an agent to use `list_whatsapp_templates`. This specialized agent pulls the list of approved and pending templates, allowing your crew to decide whether a template is ready for immediate deployment.
Yes. You define distinct roles—like 'Researcher' or 'Sender.' The MCP Server tools are exposed to the relevant agents, ensuring that each agent only has access to the functions it needs for its specific task.
The server touches contact details, chat history, and message templates. The core structured data type used across agents is the Template object, which dictates communication structure.
You assign a dedicated 'Data Retrieval' agent and pass it the `list_whatsapp_contacts` tool. This ensures that all agents share this single source of truth for contact information.
You include the `get_whatsapp_chat_history` tool in the agent pool. An 'Analyst' agent can then use this data to determine context before deciding on a final action.
