Get contact details for the team.

As part of a larger engineering effort, you need to check user data. The `get_whatsapp_contact_details` tool pulls profile information by phone number into your shared workspace. This makes it easy for any developer on the team to verify necessary contact context without leaving VS Code.

Track conversation history in code.

Building a support ticket feature? Use `get_whatsapp_chat_history` to retrieve recent messages. Copilot can incorporate this data into function logic, allowing the team to write smarter handlers. The tool's output feeds directly into your current file, maintaining consistency across the codebase.

Manage outgoing message flows.

Need to send a standardized update? The `send_template_message` function handles that. Since this is committed via `.vscode/mcp.json`, everyone on the team uses the same API structure. For immediate, non-standard messages, you can call `send_session_message` to write basic chat handling into your files.

Setup guide

Set up Wati MCP in VS Code Copilot

Prerequisites

  • VS Code 1.99 or later with GitHub Copilot extension
  • Active Vinkius subscription with a valid endpoint token
  1. 1

    Open MCP configuration

Open the Command Palette (Cmd+Shift+P / Ctrl+Shift+P) and run "MCP: Add Server". Select HTTP (Streamable) as the server type. VS Code will create .vscode/mcp.json in your workspace.

  2. 2

    Add the Wati MCP

Paste the JSON snippet shown on the right into your .vscode/mcp.json. Replace [YOUR_TOKEN_HERE] with your endpoint token from cloud.vinkius.com.

  3. 3

    Switch to Agent mode

Open Copilot Chat (Cmd+Shift+I / Ctrl+Shift+I) and switch to Agent mode using the dropdown. MCP tools are only available in Agent mode — they do not appear in Edit or Ask modes.

  4. 4

    Verify the connection

In the Copilot Chat input, type # to list available tools. You should see the Wati tools listed. Try asking: "List my recent Wati transactions" and Copilot will invoke them automatically.
