Build and manage media projects

Need to organize videos? Use `create_new_project` to set up a dedicated folder for new content. You can then use `list_wistia_projects` to see all existing folders in your Wistia account. If a project is finished, you can delete it entirely using `delete_wistia_project`. Be careful—this action removes the project and everything inside it.

Download and update assets

Start by downloading external video files into Wistia. The `upload_video_via_url` tool takes a source URL and targets it to a specific project ID, giving the asset a name. After uploading, you can refine the content using `update_media_metadata`. This lets you change names or descriptions for any media asset by providing its hashed ID.

Analyze performance and inventory

Get concrete viewer data with `get_engagement_statistics`, which pulls detailed metrics for a video. For full visibility, you can also run `list_wistia_medias` to see every asset (audio or video) in the entire Wistia account. Don't forget project context; `get_project_details` shows all media within a specific folder, while `list_wistia_projects` gives you an overview of your organizational structure.

Setup guide

Set up Wistia MCP in Windsurf

Prerequisites

  • Windsurf IDE installed (macOS, Windows, or Linux)
  • Active Vinkius subscription with a valid endpoint token
  1. 1

    Open MCP configuration

Click the Cascade assistant icon in the sidebar, then click the hammer icon (🔨) at the top of the panel. Select "Configure" to open ~/.codeium/windsurf/mcp_config.json.

  2. 2

    Add the Wistia MCP

Paste the JSON snippet shown on the right into the mcpServers object. Replace [YOUR_TOKEN_HERE] with your endpoint token from cloud.vinkius.com.

  3. 3

    Refresh MCPs

Go back to the hammer icon (🔨) in Cascade and click "Refresh". Windsurf will detect the new server. No full restart is needed — the connection is hot-reloaded.

  4. 4

    Verify in Cascade

Start a new Cascade conversation and ask something like "Show my Wistia payment history." If connected, Cascade will call the Wistia tools directly. You will see a green dot next to the server name in the MCP panel.

Common questions about Wistia MCP in Windsurf

Windsurf connects to the Wistia MCP Server to execute video marketing tasks. You don't write boilerplate code; you just state your goal (like 'Analyze Q3 campaign performance'), and Windsurf handles chaining the necessary tools.
Yes, Windsurf can execute `delete_wistia_project`. Just remember that this is permanent, so always confirm you want to lose all associated media first. It's irreversible.
This server interacts with engagement and metadata. This means it accesses video viewer statistics, project details, and asset descriptions for your Wistia content.
Absolutely. Running `list_wistia_medias` lets you pull a complete inventory of every single video or audio file in your Wistia account, regardless of which project it lives in.
You use the `update_media_metadata` tool. You must provide two things: the asset's hashed ID and a JSON object containing the specific attributes you want to change, like the name or description.
