Build RAG apps using the LlamaIndex framework.

The `list_blog_posts` tool returns a list of post titles and IDs. Instead of just printing that list, you index those results into your vector store. Later, you can query your knowledge base and get an answer grounded in actual blog posts, not guesses. This indexing capability means you build persistent knowledge about your WordPress site's content over time. You can ask questions like 'What was the title of the post with ID 45?' months later.

Search specific data points using LlamaIndex.

You run `list_site_users` and index the resulting user list. If a teammate asks, 'Which users have been created since last week?', your agent doesn't just call the tool; it searches its indexed knowledge base to answer the query based on that stored data. This is crucial for auditing. You can combine live API data (like listing categories via `list_blog_categories`) with old documents in a single, unified search result.

Retrieve details from the MCP Server using LlamaIndex.

Need to know what's on a specific page? Call `get_post_details` and index those returned details. When you query your agent later, it pulls up the full metadata for that post—the author, date, content—because it was stored in the searchable knowledge base. This RAG approach ensures every answer is traceable back to a specific tool output or data record from the WordPress platform.

Setup guide

Set up WordPress MCP in LlamaIndex

Prerequisites

  • Python 3.10+ installed
  • llama-index-tools-mcp package
  • Active Vinkius subscription with a valid endpoint token
  1. 1

    Install dependencies

    Run pip install llama-index-tools-mcp llama-index-llms-openai. The MCP tools package provides BasicMCPClient and McpToolSpec.

  2. 2

    Connect with BasicMCPClient

    Point BasicMCPClient to your Vinkius endpoint URL. Replace [YOUR_TOKEN_HERE] with your token from cloud.vinkius.com. Supports SSE and Streamable HTTP transports.

  3. 3

    Convert to LlamaIndex tools

    Call mcp_tool_spec.to_tool_list_async() to convert all WordPress MCP tools into native FunctionTool objects that any LlamaIndex agent can use.

  4. 4

    Run with any LLM

    Create a FunctionAgent with the tools and your preferred LLM. Swap OpenAI for Anthropic, Gemini, or any LlamaIndex-supported provider.

agent.py
from llama_index.tools.mcp import BasicMCPClient, McpToolSpec
from llama_index.core.agent.workflow import FunctionAgent
from llama_index.llms.openai import OpenAI

# Connect to the MCP
mcp_client = BasicMCPClient(
    "https://edge.vinkius.com/[YOUR_TOKEN_HERE]/mcp"
)
mcp_tool_spec = McpToolSpec(client=mcp_client)

# Convert MCP tools to LlamaIndex tools
tools = await mcp_tool_spec.to_tool_list_async()

# Create and run the agent
agent = FunctionAgent(
    tools=tools,
    llm=OpenAI(model="gpt-4o"),
    system_prompt="You have access to WordPress tools.",
)
response = await agent.run("List recent WordPress data")

Common questions about WordPress MCP in LlamaIndex

You call tools like `list_blog_posts` and index the raw outputs into your vector store. When you query, the knowledge base retrieves the data semantically, allowing you to find posts based on context, not just keywords.
Yes. You run `list_site_users` and index the resulting list. Later queries can then be answered by searching that indexed data to verify which users hold specific roles.
While LlamaIndex specializes in reading and indexing, you use its results (e.g., a confirmed list of IDs) as the source of truth before executing deletion via `delete_post`.
The primary function is data retrieval and indexing, not creation. You use tools like `get_post_details` to read the existing state of static pages or posts for later querying.
It indexes structured content data, including post metadata, category lists, user profiles, and page details.
