Key Capabilities

Specialized PDF generation crews

Assign a dedicated agent in your crew to manage document production using `generate_pdf`. By isolating this task, you keep your research agents focused on data gathering. Use `list_generated_documents` to have a moderator agent review the output. It allows for a structured process where one agent creates and another verifies the final file.

Template oversight with MCP Server

Let your research agent call `list_templates` to find the correct invoice style for a specific client. It removes the need for manual template selection. When a new template is added to your system, the agent detects it during the next run. This makes your document pipeline self-maintaining and efficient.

Lifecycle management of documents

If a document is no longer needed, use `delete_generated_pdf` to clean up your workspace. It keeps your storage organized without manual intervention. This tool is useful for automated cleanup crews that run at the end of a billing cycle. It ensures you only keep the files that are strictly necessary.

Setup guide

Set up PDFMonkey MCP in CrewAI

Prerequisites

  • Python 3.10+ installed
  • crewai package (pip install crewai)
  • Active Vinkius subscription with a valid endpoint token
  1. 1

    Install CrewAI

    Run pip install crewai to install the framework. MCP support is built-in via the mcps parameter.

  2. 2

    Add the MCP URL to your agent

    Pass your Vinkius endpoint directly to the mcps list. Replace [YOUR_TOKEN_HERE] with your token from cloud.vinkius.com. CrewAI handles tool discovery and caching automatically.

  3. 3

    Kick off your crew

    Create a Crew with your agent and tasks. Call crew.kickoff() — the agent will automatically invoke PDFMonkey tools as needed.

crew.py
from crewai import Agent, Task, Crew

agent = Agent(
    role="PDFMonkey Analyst",
    goal="Access and analyze PDFMonkey data via MCP.",
    backstory="Expert analyst with direct PDFMonkey access.",
    mcps=[
        "https://edge.vinkius.com/[YOUR_TOKEN_HERE]/mcp"
    ],
)

task = Task(
    description="List recent PDFMonkey transactions",
    agent=agent,
    expected_output="A summary of recent activity",
)

crew = Crew(agents=[agent], tasks=[task])
result = crew.kickoff()
print(result)

Common questions about PDFMonkey MCP in CrewAI

Pass the server URL into the agent's MCP configuration list. The agents will then have access to all exposed tools for document management.
Yes, you can expose the tools to the entire crew. This allows different agents to collaborate on generation, verification, and cleanup tasks.
The agents can be programmed to wait for a completion status. By using `check_pdf_status`, the agent keeps the task open until the document is finalized.
All document communication is handled via direct API requests. Your sensitive data is encrypted in transit and never stored by the underlying server.
It is a good practice to have a moderator agent verify the output of `get_pdf_details`. This prevents errors before the document is sent to the final recipient.
