Key Capabilities

Automated disaster notification chains

Create agent workflows that trigger based on new entries from `get_disasters`. If a high-impact event is detected, your Mastra agent can branch into an alert sequence immediately. This gives you a reliable way to monitor for specific event types. You define the logic, and the agent handles the execution, including retries if the network flickers.

Structured humanitarian report processing

Use `get_reports` to feed data into your multi-step agent pipelines. You can chain these calls to extract key themes or locations before the agent makes a final decision. It brings consistency to your operations. By standardizing how you fetch reports, your agents avoid the common pitfalls of handling messy, unstructured data manually.

Verified organization data lookups

Program your agents to verify sources using `get_organizations` and `get_sources` before acting on report data. This adds a critical layer of validation to your automated tasks. Your workflow ensures that only trusted entities inform your decisions. It minimizes the risk of acting on unverified information during time-sensitive field operations.

Setup guide

Set up ReliefWeb MCP in Mastra AI

Prerequisites

  • Node.js 18+ and a TypeScript project
  • @mastra/mcp + @mastra/core packages
  • Active Vinkius subscription with a valid endpoint token
  1. 1

    Install dependencies

    Run npm install @mastra/mcp @mastra/core plus your preferred model provider (e.g. @ai-sdk/openai).

  2. 2

    Configure the MCPClient

    Create an MCPClient with your Vinkius endpoint as a URL object. Replace [YOUR_TOKEN_HERE] with your token from cloud.vinkius.com.

  3. 3

    Discover and inject tools

    Call mcpClient.listTools() and spread the result into your agent's tools object. All ReliefWeb tools become native Mastra tools.

  4. 4

    Run with any model

    Swap openai("gpt-4o") for any AI SDK-compatible provider. Call agent.generate() and the agent routes tool calls through MCP automatically.

agent.ts
import { MCPClient } from "@mastra/mcp";
import { Agent } from "@mastra/core/agent";
import { openai } from "@ai-sdk/openai";

const mcpClient = new MCPClient({
  id: "reliefweb-mcp-client",
  servers: {
    "reliefweb-mcp": {
      url: new URL(
        "https://edge.vinkius.com/[YOUR_TOKEN_HERE]/mcp"
      ),
    },
  },
});

const agent = new Agent({
  name: "ReliefWeb Agent",
  model: openai("gpt-4o"),
  instructions: "You have access to ReliefWeb tools.",
  tools: {
    ...(await mcpClient.listTools()),
  },
});

const result = await agent.generate(
  "List recent ReliefWeb transactions"
);
console.log(result.text);

Common questions about ReliefWeb MCP in Mastra AI

You define an agent in Mastra that periodically calls `get_disasters`. By setting up conditional logic in your workflow, you can trigger alerts only when specific disaster types match your criteria.
Yes. Mastra includes built-in retry logic for MCP tool calls. If a connection to the server drops, your agent will attempt to reach the API again based on your defined policy.
Absolutely. You can use the `get_themes` tool to retrieve valid topic IDs, then pass those into `get_reports` to narrow your agent's focus to specific humanitarian areas.
You manage access via your endpoint token in the Vinkius dashboard. Your agent uses this connection to securely talk to the server, ensuring your requests are authorized.
The server treats all incoming requests as ephemeral. It processes your data in an isolated sandbox, meaning no history or sensitive information is logged or persisted after the agent completes its task.
