Key Capabilities

Fetch real-time disaster intelligence

Cascade uses `get_disasters` to pull active event data into your open files. It reads the disaster type and affected region so you can build logic based on current ground conditions. Stop searching through browser tabs for updates. When you give Cascade a goal, it hits the API and injects the raw data into your editor immediately.

Automate report retrieval in Windsurf

The `get_reports` tool lets Cascade search for specific humanitarian summaries using your natural language prompts. It grabs the exact metadata you need for your technical analysis. Windsurf chains these results with `get_report` to fetch specific details. You get the full context without leaving the IDE.

Query humanitarian job listings

Your agent uses `get_jobs` to pull live postings from the ReliefWeb database. It parses the location and organization data to match your specific search criteria. Cascade handles the filtering automatically. You see the latest opportunities as structured data in your workspace.

Setup guide

Set up ReliefWeb MCP in Windsurf

Prerequisites

  • Windsurf IDE installed (macOS, Windows, or Linux)
  • Active Vinkius subscription with a valid endpoint token
  1. 1

    Open MCP configuration

Click the Cascade assistant icon in the sidebar, then click the hammer icon (🔨) at the top of the panel. Select "Configure" to open ~/.codeium/windsurf/mcp_config.json.

  2. 2

    Add the ReliefWeb MCP

Paste the JSON snippet shown on the right into the mcpServers object. Replace [YOUR_TOKEN_HERE] with your endpoint token from cloud.vinkius.com.

  3. 3

    Refresh MCPs

Go back to the hammer icon (🔨) in Cascade and click "Refresh". Windsurf will detect the new server. No full restart is needed — the connection is hot-reloaded.

  4. 4

    Verify in Cascade

Start a new Cascade conversation and ask something like "Show my ReliefWeb payment history." If connected, Cascade will call the ReliefWeb tools directly. You will see a green dot next to the server name in the MCP panel.

Common questions about ReliefWeb MCP in Windsurf

Yes. Cascade can run a script to fetch data via `get_disasters` and write it to your local files. It maps the API response fields directly into your project structure.
You tell Cascade to use `get_reports` with specific parameters like country or theme. It handles the API query construction and displays the results in your chat window.
No. The connection works without manual authentication keys. Vinkius manages the transport so you can start querying immediately.
Yes. Use `get_organizations` to list valid entities. Cascade can then pass those IDs into `get_reports` to narrow your view.
The server only touches public humanitarian metadata. Your local files remain on your machine, and the MCP connection acts as a direct pipe for specific, non-sensitive disaster reports.
