Simulating scheduling conflicts

Set up a debate between agents: one agent calls `list_scheduled_meetings` to gather data, and another agent challenges that list by checking for overlaps using `get_meeting_details`. They negotiate whether an update is needed. The resulting consensus determines if the system should call `update_meeting_schedule`, ensuring no time conflicts occur before proceeding. The answer emerges from deliberation.

Automating room governance debates

You can set up multiple agents to debate naming conventions for Webex rooms. One agent might suggest a new title via `update_room_title`, while another flags the name as too vague, forcing a negotiation. The final decision—the chosen title and successful execution of `update_room_title`—is reached only after all competing perspectives have been considered.

Executing irreversible cleanup protocols

The debate framework can manage sensitive actions. For example, one agent identifies old, unused spaces using `list_webex_rooms`, and a security agent debates whether the room must be deleted via `delete_webex_room`. The process requires consensus before executing destructive tools like deletion, making sure that irreversible changes are deliberate outcomes of discussion.

Setup guide

Set up Webex MCP in AutoGen

Prerequisites

  • Python 3.10+ installed
  • autogen-ext[mcp] package
  • Active Vinkius subscription with a valid endpoint token
  1. 1

    Install AutoGen with MCP

    Run pip install "autogen-ext[mcp]" autogen-agentchat. The MCP extension includes mcp_server_tools for stateless tool access.

  2. 2

    Fetch tools from the MCP

    Call mcp_server_tools(SseServerParams(url=...)) with your Vinkius endpoint. Replace [YOUR_TOKEN_HERE] with your token from cloud.vinkius.com.

  3. 3

    Run your agent

    Pass the tools to AssistantAgent and call agent.run(). The agent invokes Webex tools and returns structured results.

agent.py
from autogen_ext.tools.mcp import SseServerParams, mcp_server_tools
from autogen_agentchat.agents import AssistantAgent
from autogen_ext.models.openai import OpenAIChatCompletionClient

server_params = SseServerParams(
    url="https://edge.vinkius.com/[YOUR_TOKEN_HERE]/mcp"
)

tools = await mcp_server_tools(server_params)

agent = AssistantAgent(
    name="Webex_assistant",
    model_client=OpenAIChatCompletionClient(model="gpt-4o"),
    tools=tools,
)

result = await agent.run("List recent Webex data")
print(result.messages[-1].content)

Common questions about Webex MCP in AutoGen

AutoGen uses the Webex tool outputs as evidence during its multi-agent debates. Agents argue about the best course of action based on API calls like `get_room_details` or listing scheduled meetings.
Yes, an agent can initiate a debate around needing a new space. Once consensus is reached, the system executes `create_webex_room`, and that result becomes part of the ongoing conversation history.
AutoGen manages metadata including room titles, scheduled meeting parameters (timestamps), and unique identifiers for both rooms and meetings. It treats these IDs as critical points of discussion.
It does. Agents can debate whether an existing meeting needs changing and, upon consensus, execute `update_meeting_schedule` or update a title using `update_room_title`.
This MCP Server touches scheduling metadata, room identifiers, and descriptive text. Since the system simulates deliberation, it's important to log which specific meeting titles or IDs were debated and acted upon.
