Key Capabilities

Deciding Note Status

Your multi-agent system can first use `list_notes` to gather all note titles and UUIDs. A 'Review Agent' then calls `get_item_details` for a subset of notes, presenting the raw context to the group. The agents debate whether the notes are complete or if they require additional tagging based on the retrieved content.

Collaborative Tagging

One agent can use `create_tag` to propose a new tag concept. Another 'Policy Agent' then verifies the need for that tag, and finally, an executor agent runs `tag_note`, applying the consensus tag across multiple notes. This simulates a team meeting where different perspectives agree on data categorization.

Managing Note Lifecycles

`create_note` allows one agent to generate initial content and another to verify it for tone or completeness. Once approved, the system uses `update_note` to finalize the record. This process manages the note's lifecycle through deliberation before making it permanent.

Setup guide

Set up Standard Notes MCP in AutoGen

Prerequisites

  • Python 3.10+ installed
  • autogen-ext[mcp] package
  • Active Vinkius subscription with a valid endpoint token
  1. 1

    Install AutoGen with MCP

    Run pip install "autogen-ext[mcp]" autogen-agentchat. The MCP extension includes mcp_server_tools for stateless tool access.

  2. 2

    Fetch tools from the MCP

    Call mcp_server_tools(SseServerParams(url=...)) with your Vinkius endpoint. Replace [YOUR_TOKEN_HERE] with your token from cloud.vinkius.com.

  3. 3

    Run your agent

    Pass the tools to AssistantAgent and call agent.run(). The agent invokes Standard Notes tools and returns structured results.

agent.py
from autogen_ext.tools.mcp import SseServerParams, mcp_server_tools
from autogen_agentchat.agents import AssistantAgent
from autogen_ext.models.openai import OpenAIChatCompletionClient

server_params = SseServerParams(
    url="https://edge.vinkius.com/[YOUR_TOKEN_HERE]/mcp"
)

tools = await mcp_server_tools(server_params)

agent = AssistantAgent(
    name="Standard Notes_assistant",
    model_client=OpenAIChatCompletionClient(model="gpt-4o"),
    tools=tools,
)

result = await agent.run("List recent Standard Notes data")
print(result.messages[-1].content)

Common questions about Standard Notes MCP in AutoGen

The agents use `create_note` to generate content, which is then vetted by other virtual agents. If approved, the final version is committed using `update_note`.
Yes. The system can use `list_tags` to see existing categories. Multiple agents can then debate which new tag should be created, calling `create_tag` only after a consensus is reached.
The sensitive data type is the note content. Because the agents are debating and acting based on API calls, they never handle or expose the encryption keys; that's kept local by your client.
The consensus process can be gated by `sync_items`. Before running a multi-agent debate, you force a sync using the token to make sure everyone is operating on current information.
The agents can run `delete_item` if consensus dictates that a note or tag needs permanent removal. Remember, this action is irreversible and requires explicit agent agreement.
