Manage networks via chained calls

You can build complex logic where the agent first executes `list_central_networks` to find a target network. Next, it uses that output to determine which member needs updating and calls `update_central_network_member`. This sequence of tool calls allows for full automated networking setup. Your ReAct agent doesn't just run one command; it decides the entire flow. It can check local status using `get_local_status` before attempting to join a network with `join_local_network`, ensuring all prerequisites are met in order.

Monitor peers and member authorization

Need to audit who's on the network? Your agent runs `list_central_network_members` to get a complete roster of authorized users. If something looks wrong, it can immediately use `update_controller_network_member` to revoke or adjust permissions for that specific user. This capability lets you write pipelines that automatically enforce policy changes across multiple servers. It's about making the agent decide *when* and *how* to manage network membership data.

Audit all connected ZeroTier nodes

To get a full picture, your chain can first run `list_local_networks` to see everything the current node is attached to. Following that, it calls `list_local_peers` to map out every known peer connection. This ensures comprehensive visibility into all local ZeroTier connections. You're treating network state as data—a source of truth for subsequent actions in your chain.

Setup guide

Set up ZeroTier MCP in LangChain

Prerequisites

  • Python 3.10+ installed
  • langchain-mcp-adapters + langgraph packages
  • Active Vinkius subscription with a valid endpoint token
  1. 1

    Install dependencies

    Run pip install langchain-mcp-adapters langgraph langchain-openai. The MCP adapters package converts MCP tools into native LangChain BaseTool objects.

  2. 2

    Connect via HTTP transport

    Use MultiServerMCPClient with "transport": "http" pointing to your Vinkius endpoint. Replace [YOUR_TOKEN_HERE] with your token from cloud.vinkius.com.

  3. 3

    Create a ReAct agent

    Pass the discovered tools to create_react_agent() from LangGraph. The agent automatically routes ZeroTier tool calls through the MCP protocol.

  4. 4

    Run with any LLM

    Swap ChatOpenAI for ChatAnthropic, ChatGoogleGenerativeAI, or any LangChain-compatible model. The MCP tools work identically across all providers.

agent.py
from langchain_mcp_adapters.client import MultiServerMCPClient
from langgraph.prebuilt import create_react_agent
from langchain_openai import ChatOpenAI

async with MultiServerMCPClient({
    "zerotier-mcp": {
        "transport": "http",
        "url": "https://edge.vinkius.com/[YOUR_TOKEN_HERE]/mcp",
    }
}) as client:
    tools = client.get_tools()

    agent = create_react_agent(
        ChatOpenAI(model="gpt-4o"),
        tools,
    )
    result = await agent.ainvoke({
        "messages": "List recent ZeroTier transactions"
    })
    print(result["messages"][-1].content)

Common questions about ZeroTier MCP in LangChain

LangChain uses the MCP Server to execute multi-step reasoning. For instance, an agent might first check if a network exists using `list_central_networks`, and only then attempt to join it with `join_local_network`.
Absolutely. The MCP Server exposes tools like `get_local_status` and `list_controller_networks`. Your agent can read this real-time network data, making your applications grounded in actual infrastructure state.
LangChain supports aggregating tools from multiple MCP Servers. You can combine this ZeroTier networking server with other services to manage a complete stack of infrastructure components in one chain.
Yes, Vinkius handles authentication via a single endpoint token. You don't worry about managing separate ZeroTier access keys; your agent just needs the connection to the MCP Server.
This server primarily touches network membership and configuration data. This includes details from `list_central_network_members` and current local node status reported by `get_local_status`.
