Automate Member Verification with MCP Server

You can check every member of a ZeroTier Central network using `list_central_network_members`. This lets your agent verify who's connected to the staging environment before deployment. Want to update someone? Use `update_central_network_member` to configure or change access rights for any user in that centralized network.

Monitor Local Node Status

Need to know if the local machine is connected? The `get_local_status` tool pulls up real-time information about your ZeroTier node. It tells you exactly what state the local connection is in. It's also great for sequencing checks. If a subsequent step needs connectivity, Windsurf can first run this check to make sure the network path is open.

Manage Local Network Membership

Your agent controls local joining and leaving via `join_local_network` or `leave_local_network`. You set a goal—say, 'connect to the testing subnet'—and Windsurf handles the two-step process of checking if you can join and then executing the command. It even lists all available networks locally using `list_local_networks`, giving your workflow visibility into every ZeroTier segment it interacts with.

Setup guide

Set up ZeroTier MCP in Windsurf

Prerequisites

  • Windsurf IDE installed (macOS, Windows, or Linux)
  • Active Vinkius subscription with a valid endpoint token
  1. 1

    Open MCP configuration

Click the Cascade assistant icon in the sidebar, then click the hammer icon (🔨) at the top of the panel. Select "Configure" to open ~/.codeium/windsurf/mcp_config.json.

  2. 2

    Add the ZeroTier MCP

Paste the JSON snippet shown on the right into the mcpServers object. Replace [YOUR_TOKEN_HERE] with your endpoint token from cloud.vinkius.com.

  3. 3

    Refresh MCPs

Go back to the hammer icon (🔨) in Cascade and click "Refresh". Windsurf will detect the new server. No full restart is needed — the connection is hot-reloaded.

  4. 4

    Verify in Cascade

Start a new Cascade conversation and ask something like "Show my ZeroTier payment history." If connected, Cascade will call the ZeroTier tools directly. You will see a green dot next to the server name in the MCP panel.

Common questions about ZeroTier MCP in Windsurf

You run `list_local_peers` first. This shows all known peers the local node sees. Then, you can use your agent to execute connection checks against specific network IDs.
Absolutely. Use `update_central_network_member` when the user account needs changes in a managed central network. It’s clean, specific, and lets you avoid manual console work.
The `join_local_network` tool handles this gracefully. It confirms the current status of your local node, so you won't run into redundant or conflicting commands.
Yeah, it does. The server provides tools like `list_central_networks` and `list_controller_networks`, letting your agent see the full scope of managed networks.
The primary data type is the network membership configuration itself, which includes specific user authorizations and network identifiers.
