Key Capabilities

Get and stream Tally form metadata to the client.

When building a user-facing product, use `get_form` to fetch detailed information for any Tally form. Since this is an SDK client, you can stream this data directly into your React or Next.js UI as soon as it arrives. This allows the end user to see the form structure loading in real time, giving a much smoother experience than waiting on a single API call completion.

Audit and display Tally submissions in real-time.

To verify records, use `list_submissions` or `get_submission`. Streaming the results means your component updates live as the data streams through. This is critical for auditing multiple submission records efficiently. You can build a full audit dashboard where submitting rows populate instantly without triggering unnecessary UI re-renders.

Check Tally account and workspace details programmatically.

The `get_me` tool provides your current Tally account credentials, which is essential for initializing the client state. Similarly, `get_workspace` lets you pull workspace details needed to scope the audit process. These calls provide necessary context data right at launch time, allowing your application logic to prepare before any heavy querying starts.

Setup guide

Set up Tally MCP in Vercel AI SDK

Prerequisites

  • Node.js 18+ and a TypeScript project
  • ai + @modelcontextprotocol/sdk packages
  • Active Vinkius subscription with a valid endpoint token
  1. 1

    Install dependencies

    Run npm install ai @modelcontextprotocol/sdk plus your preferred model provider (e.g. @ai-sdk/openai).

  2. 2

    Create the Streamable HTTP transport

    Use StreamableHTTPClientTransport with your Vinkius endpoint URL. Replace [YOUR_TOKEN_HERE] with your token from cloud.vinkius.com.

  3. 3

    Discover and use tools

    Call mcpClient.tools() to auto-discover all Tally tools. Pass them directly to generateText() or streamText() — no manual schema definitions needed.

  4. 4

    Works with any model provider

    Swap openai("gpt-4o") for any AI SDK provider — Anthropic, Google, Mistral. The MCP tools work identically across all supported models.

index.ts
import { experimental_createMCPClient as createMCPClient } from "ai";
import { StreamableHTTPClientTransport } from "@modelcontextprotocol/sdk/client/streamableHttp";
import { generateText } from "ai";
import { openai } from "@ai-sdk/openai";

const transport = new StreamableHTTPClientTransport(
  new URL("https://edge.vinkius.com/[YOUR_TOKEN_HERE]/mcp")
);

const mcpClient = await createMCPClient({ transport });
const tools = await mcpClient.tools();

const { text } = await generateText({
  model: openai("gpt-4o"),
  tools,
  prompt: "List recent Tally transactions",
});

console.log(text);
await mcpClient.close();

Common questions about Tally MCP in Vercel AI SDK

You call `list_forms` or `get_form` through your client. The typed nature of the SDK ensures you get structured data immediately, which is perfect for building predictable UI components.
Streaming handles large payloads gracefully. Instead of loading a massive JSON object at once, the results arrive chunk by chunk, making your client appear responsive even when pulling thousands of records.
The server touches form metadata, submission record details, and workspace identifiers. Your application can display these types in a highly structured format because the data is streamed type-by-type.
The current tools focus on reading and auditing. You can pull form details using `get_form`, but you'll need other endpoints if your goal is to write or modify the underlying Tally structure.
The primary data types involve form schemas, individual submission records (which contain user-submitted text/numbers), and workspace configurations. This allows you to build a complete picture for the end user.
