Key Capabilities

Audit form structure across the engineering team.

Team members can automatically call `list_forms` to see a unified view of all available Tally forms. This is great for ensuring consistent data schemas before development starts. Need the details on one specific field? Use `get_form` and commit the resulting schema object to your project files.

Process submission data in a team workflow.

Developers can use Copilot Chat to run `list_submissions`, gathering all recent responses into one view. This allows the whole team to assess the volume and nature of incoming data quickly. You then grab specific records using `get_submission` so that individual components or services can process them reliably.

Define Tally integration points in code.

The agent lets you define boundaries by calling `list_workspaces`. This ensures every developer knows which departmental workspace they are currently targeting. It also provides your user context via `get_me`, ensuring that the service uses the correct team credentials when making API calls.

Setup guide

Set up Tally MCP in VS Code Copilot

Prerequisites

  • VS Code 1.99 or later with GitHub Copilot extension
  • Active Vinkius subscription with a valid endpoint token
  1. 1

    Open MCP configuration

Open the Command Palette (Cmd+Shift+P / Ctrl+Shift+P) and run "MCP: Add Server". Select HTTP (Streamable) as the server type. VS Code will create .vscode/mcp.json in your workspace.

  2. 2

    Add the Tally MCP

Paste the JSON snippet shown on the right into your .vscode/mcp.json. Replace [YOUR_TOKEN_HERE] with your endpoint token from cloud.vinkius.com.

  3. 3

    Switch to Agent mode

Open Copilot Chat (Cmd+Shift+I / Ctrl+Shift+I) and switch to Agent mode using the dropdown. MCP tools are only available in Agent mode — they do not appear in Edit or Ask modes.

  4. 4

    Verify the connection

In the Copilot Chat input, type # to list available tools. You should see the Tally tools listed. Try asking: "List my recent Tally transactions" and Copilot will invoke them automatically.

Common questions about Tally MCP in VS Code Copilot

You ask Copilot Chat to run `list_forms`. It executes the call, and the resulting form array is immediately available for you to reference in your code.
Yes. You prompt it to use `get_submission` along with the required IDs. The full data payload appears right there, making it easy for you to debug your services.
You simply tell Copilot Chat to run `delete_submission`. It handles the API call and returns a clear success or failure message that you can commit to your logs.
