What is the Cloudflare Stream MCP Server?

Connect your Cloudflare Stream account to any AI agent to manage your video delivery and live streaming workflows through natural conversation.

What you can do

  • Video Management — List all videos in your account, fetch specific metadata, and filter by status (ready, in-progress, error) or type (vod, live).
  • Live Streaming — Create and manage live inputs, configure recording options, and list simulcast outputs for platforms like YouTube or Twitch.
  • Content Editing — Update video metadata, set allowed origins for security, and schedule automatic deletions.
  • Upload Workflows — Initiate video uploads using the TUS protocol with custom metadata and size specifications.
  • Deletion Control — Permanently remove videos or live inputs when they are no longer needed.

How it works

  1. Subscribe to this server
  2. Enter your Cloudflare Account ID and API Token
  3. Start managing your video library and live streams from Claude, Cursor, or any MCP-compatible client

Who is this for?

  • Content Creators & Media Teams — quickly check video statuses and manage metadata without leaving the chat interface.
  • Developers — integrate video upload and management logic into coding workflows or automated agents.
  • Live Streamers — monitor live inputs and configure simulcast destinations on the fly.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

01

Can I filter my video list to see only videos that are ready to watch?

Yes! Use the list_videos tool and set the status parameter to 'ready'. You can also filter by type (vod or live) and search for specific names.

02

How do I create a new live streaming endpoint?

You can use the create_live_input tool. You can optionally provide metadata like a stream name and configure whether the stream should be automatically recorded.

03

Is it possible to update the metadata of an existing video?

Absolutely. Use the edit_video tool with the video's identifier. You can update the meta object, change allowedOrigins, or toggle requireSignedURLs.

04

What is Agent mode and why does it matter for MCP?

Agent mode is Cursor's autonomous execution mode where the AI can perform multi-step tasks: reading files, editing code, running terminal commands, and calling MCP tools. Without Agent mode, Cursor operates in a simpler ask-and-answer mode that doesn't support tool calling. Always ensure you're in Agent mode when working with MCP servers.

05

Where does Cursor store MCP configuration?

Cursor looks for MCP server configurations in a mcp.json file. You can configure servers at the project level (.cursor/mcp.json in your project root) or globally (~/.cursor/mcp.json). Project-level configs take precedence.

06

Can Cursor use MCP tools in inline edits?

No. MCP tools are only available in Agent mode through the chat panel. Inline completions and Tab suggestions do not trigger MCP tool calls. This is by design. tool calls require user visibility and approval.

07

How do I verify MCP tools are loaded?

Open Settings → Features → MCP and look for your server name. A green indicator means the server is connected. You can also check Agent mode's available tools by clicking the tools dropdown in the chat panel.

08

Tools not appearing in Cursor

Ensure you are in Agent mode (not Ask mode). MCP tools only work in Agent mode.
