What you can do

  • Cinematic Text-to-Video — Generate high-fidelity AI videos from scenic descriptions using Luma Dream Machine (Ray-2 model) directly from your agent
  • Image Animation — Transform static frames into dynamic videos (image-to-video) with industry-leading motion coherence and photorealism
  • Professional Camera Control — Direct your AI shots with specific movements including pan, tilt, dolly, and orbit using structured movement parameters
  • Video Extension & Looping — Seamlessly continue existing scenes with additional footage or create perfect looping videos for social media and backgrounds
  • Keyframe Interpolation — Create smooth, high-quality video transitions between two distinct keyframe images to bridge visual concepts effectively
  • Photorealistic Text-to-Image — Generate stunning high-resolution images using the Luma Photon-1 model for rapid visual iteration and design
  • Task Orchestration — Manage asynchronous generation jobs, poll for status updates (queued, dreaming, completed), and monitor your API credit balance securely

How it works

1. Subscribe to this server
2. Enter your Luma AI API Key
3. Start generating cinematic media from Claude, Cursor, or any MCP-compatible client

Who is this for?

  • Video Editors & Creators — generate high-quality B-roll and cinematic sequences through natural conversation without manual rendering
  • Creative Directors — rapid-prototype visual concepts and storyboards by commanding your agent to generate varied styles and camera paths
  • AI Artists & Designers — iterate on photorealistic imagery and complex video transitions directly from your workspace

Why Cursor?

Cursor's Agent mode turns Luma AI (Generative Video & Creative) into an in-editor superpower. Ask Cursor to generate code using live data from Luma AI (Generative Video & Creative) and it fetches, processes, and writes. all in a single agentic loop. 10 tools appear alongside file editing and terminal access, creating a unified development environment grounded in real-time information.

  • Agent mode turns Cursor into an autonomous coding assistant that can read files, run commands, and call MCP tools without switching context

  • Cursor's Composer feature can generate entire files using real-time data fetched through MCP. no copy-pasting from external dashboards

  • MCP tools appear alongside built-in tools like file reading and terminal access, creating a unified agentic environment

  • VS Code extension compatibility means your existing workflow, keybindings, and extensions all work alongside MCP tools

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

01

How do I check if my video generation is finished?

Use the lm.get_generation tool with the Generation ID provided. Your agent will poll the Luma API and report the current state (queued, dreaming, or completed). Once finished, it will return the final MP4 video URL.

02

Can I control the camera movement in my AI-generated video?

Absolutely. Use the lm.camera_control tool. You can provide a scene prompt and a JSON block defining the movement type (e.g., orbit, pan, tilt) and magnitude, allowing for professional cinematographic directing.

03

Can my agent extend an existing Luma video with more footage?

Yes. The lm.extend_video tool allows you to provide a continuation prompt and a previous Generation ID. Your agent will trigger Luma to seamlessly expand the scene, maintaining visual and structural consistency.

04

What is Agent mode and why does it matter for MCP?

Agent mode is Cursor's autonomous execution mode where the AI can perform multi-step tasks: reading files, editing code, running terminal commands, and calling MCP tools. Without Agent mode, Cursor operates in a simpler ask-and-answer mode that doesn't support tool calling. Always ensure you're in Agent mode when working with MCP servers.

05

Where does Cursor store MCP configuration?

Cursor looks for MCP server configurations in a mcp.json file. You can configure servers at the project level (.cursor/mcp.json in your project root) or globally (~/.cursor/mcp.json). Project-level configs take precedence.

06

Can Cursor use MCP tools in inline edits?

No. MCP tools are only available in Agent mode through the chat panel. Inline completions and Tab suggestions do not trigger MCP tool calls. This is by design. tool calls require user visibility and approval.

07

How do I verify MCP tools are loaded?

Open Settings → Features → MCP and look for your server name. A green indicator means the server is connected. You can also check Agent mode's available tools by clicking the tools dropdown in the chat panel.

08

Tools not appearing in Cursor

Ensure you are in Agent mode (not Ask mode). MCP tools only work in Agent mode.
