What is the Mode (Collaborative Data Platform) MCP Server?
Connect your Mode Analytics account to any AI agent and take full control of your enterprise business intelligence, collaborative SQL reporting, and data source management through natural conversation.
What you can do
- Report Orchestration — List all managed data reports and retrieve detailed analytical parameters, including chart configurations and query states directly from your agent
- Space Navigation — Explore organizational 'Spaces' (Personal, Shared) to retrieve the exact report tokens needed to query scoped analytical boundaries natively
- Global Analytics Search — Execute workspace-wide searches to identify specific reports and datasets matching literal metadata descriptions or keywords
- Data Source Audit — Enumerate explicit database and warehouse connector sources bound to your Mode account to understand which schemas are available for querying
- Member Tracking — List statically tracked analytical users within your workspace to verify report ownership and collaborative boundaries securely
- Metadata Inspection — Deep-dive into specific Report or Space tokens to retrieve precise configuration details and chart definitions instantly
How it works
- Subscribe to this server
- Enter your Mode Workspace Name, Access Token, and Access Secret
- Start exploring your analytics from Claude, Cursor, or any MCP-compatible client
Who is this for?
- Data Analysts — verify SQL reporting parameters and audit report configurations through natural conversation without manual workspace navigation
- Business Users — search for specific data insights and retrieve rapid report summaries directly from your workspace
- Analytics Engineers — monitor data warehouse connectors and manage space hierarchies across multiple Mode environments efficiently
Built-in capabilities (7)

Why Cursor?
Cursor's Agent mode turns Mode (Collaborative Data Platform) into an in-editor superpower. Ask Cursor to generate code using live data from Mode (Collaborative Data Platform) and it fetches, processes, and writes. all in a single agentic loop. 7 tools appear alongside file editing and terminal access, creating a unified development environment grounded in real-time information.
- —
Agent mode turns Cursor into an autonomous coding assistant that can read files, run commands, and call MCP tools without switching context
- —
Cursor's Composer feature can generate entire files using real-time data fetched through MCP. no copy-pasting from external dashboards
- —
MCP tools appear alongside built-in tools like file reading and terminal access, creating a unified agentic environment
- —
VS Code extension compatibility means your existing workflow, keybindings, and extensions all work alongside MCP tools

Frequently asked questions
Can I see the chart configurations for a specific Mode report through my agent?
Yes. Use the get_report tool with a specific Report Token. Your agent will retrieve the detailed analytical parameters, exposing the chart configurations and the underlying query logic used to generate the report data.
How do I check which databases are currently linked to my Mode workspace?
The list_data_sources tool retrieves all database and warehouse connectors bound to your account. Your agent will report the source names and mapped schemas, helping you identify which data is available for SQL reporting.
Can my agent help me find specific reports across different organizational spaces?
Absolutely. Use the search_reports tool with a search query. Your agent will filter through the metadata of all reports across your workspace, helping you locate critical data insights instantly without manual navigation.
What is Agent mode and why does it matter for MCP?
Agent mode is Cursor's autonomous execution mode where the AI can perform multi-step tasks: reading files, editing code, running terminal commands, and calling MCP tools. Without Agent mode, Cursor operates in a simpler ask-and-answer mode that doesn't support tool calling. Always ensure you're in Agent mode when working with MCP servers.
Where does Cursor store MCP configuration?
Cursor looks for MCP server configurations in a mcp.json file. You can configure servers at the project level (.cursor/mcp.json in your project root) or globally (~/.cursor/mcp.json). Project-level configs take precedence.
Can Cursor use MCP tools in inline edits?
No. MCP tools are only available in Agent mode through the chat panel. Inline completions and Tab suggestions do not trigger MCP tool calls. This is by design. tool calls require user visibility and approval.
How do I verify MCP tools are loaded?
Open Settings → Features → MCP and look for your server name. A green indicator means the server is connected. You can also check Agent mode's available tools by clicking the tools dropdown in the chat panel.
Tools not appearing in Cursor
Ensure you are in Agent mode (not Ask mode). MCP tools only work in Agent mode.
