Connect your Amplenote account to any AI agent to fuse your personal knowledge base and task manager directly into your daily computational workflows.

What you can do

  • Notes & Ideas — Read, create, list, and natively search your entire note library to pull exact context into your AI conversations seamlessly.
  • Task Execution — Query specific pending to-dos, update task states, or rapidly create new tasks within specific notes without leaving the chat.

Who is this for?

  • Knowledge Workers — command the agent to search your older research notes and synthesize a brand new outline for an upcoming essay.
  • Project Leads — easily ask the AI to check all your incomplete tasks tagged with #urgent and formulate an execution plan for today.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

01

Can the agent interact with specific individual tasks within my notes?

Yes. Amplenote's integration treats tasks as distinct manageable objects. You can not only list the pending items inside a note but also ask the agent to complete them, update their content, or inject an entirely new to-do row directly inside.

02

How does searching work across hundreds of deeply tagged notes?

The integration utilizes Amplenote's robust search protocol. You simply tell the agent to 'find notes containing strategy tagged with #work/2026', and it will parse your complex nested structures efficiently without blindly guessing.

03

Can I trust the AI agent to update existing notes without wiping the rest of the text?

Absolutely. Under the hood, the integration exposes granular update capabilities where the agent carefully dictates new structural alterations. It will append or replace specific regions accurately without overwriting unrelated brainstorming details.

04

Which VS Code version supports MCP?

MCP support requires VS Code 1.99 or later with the GitHub Copilot extension. Ensure both are updated to the latest version. Older versions of Copilot may not expose the Agent mode toggle.

05

How do I switch to Agent mode?

Open the Copilot Chat panel and look for two mode options: "Ask" and "Agent". Click "Agent" to enable autonomous tool calling. In Ask mode, Copilot provides conversational answers but cannot invoke MCP tools.

06

Can I restrict which MCP tools Copilot can access?

Yes. VS Code shows a tool consent dialog before any MCP tool is invoked for the first time. You can also configure tool access policies at the organization level through GitHub Copilot settings.

07

Does MCP work in VS Code Remote or Codespaces?

Yes. MCP servers configured via .vscode/mcp.json work in Remote SSH, WSL, and GitHub Codespaces environments. The MCP connection is established from the remote host, so ensure the server URL is accessible from that environment.

08

MCP tools not available

Ensure you are in Agent mode in Copilot Chat. MCP tools only appear in Agent mode.
