What is the Trimble MCP Server?
Connect your AI agent exclusively to your Trimble PC*MILER logistics infrastructure. Elevate your transportation operations replacing disjointed navigation screens. Communicate organically to your agent to dictate exact vehicle dimensions to avoid tight bridges, compile meticulous state-by-state fuel mileage reports, or estimate holistic transit budgets using precise industrial coordinates.
What you can do
- Heavy Routing Limits — Command a route trace bypassing commercial hazard zones using variables like actual truck dimensions (height, weight) directly in conversation
- Toll Estimation — Ping exactly how much a full route will impact your budget by breaking down both cash and electronic toll values mathematically
- State Mileage Reporting — Generate automatic fuel-tax (IFTA) summaries calculating exact penetration mileage crossed inside individual states
- Logistics Forensics — Interrogate geographical locations using structured isochrone grids (predicting max travel based on an hour limit) or matrix origins
- Spatial Exclusions — Trace itineraries avoiding strictly designated public roads and restricting expressways in the blink of an eye
How it works
- Provision this connector inside your central Vinkius matrix
- Inject your certified Trimble Developer API Key
- Start addressing fleet transit instructions directly mapping routes over any environment
Who is this for?
- Fleet Operations Managers — Oversee large transport deployments bypassing hazards evaluating toll expenditures across specific trips in milliseconds
- Logistical Data Scientists — Plot broad origins-destinations distance matrices interacting solely through terminal queries over heavy machinery requirements
- Dispatch Analysts — Investigate delivery reach by requesting an active 'time shed' (isochrone) boundary estimating limits for rush transit manually
Built-in capabilities (10)
Provide center coordinates and time in minutes. Calculates the reachable area within a specific time limit from a center point
Provide arrays of lon,lat points. Calculates distances and travel times between multiple origins and destinations
Calculates mileage broken down by US state or province for a given route
Returns cash and electronic toll fees in USD. Estimates the total toll costs for a specific truck route
Returns distance, time, and routing polyline. Calculates a truck-compliant route between multiple stops using Trimble PC*MILER
Considers bridge heights, HazMat restrictions, and weight limits. Retrieves turn-by-turn driving directions for a truck route
Converts geographic coordinates into the nearest commercial address
Calculates a route that explicitly avoids certain roads or expressways
Provide vehicle height in inches and weight in lbs. Calculates a truck route using specific vehicle dimensions
Searches for locations and commercial addresses in the Trimble database
Why Cursor?
Cursor's Agent mode turns Trimble into an in-editor superpower. Ask Cursor to generate code using live data from Trimble and it fetches, processes, and writes. all in a single agentic loop. 10 tools appear alongside file editing and terminal access, creating a unified development environment grounded in real-time information.
- —
Agent mode turns Cursor into an autonomous coding assistant that can read files, run commands, and call MCP tools without switching context
- —
Cursor's Composer feature can generate entire files using real-time data fetched through MCP. no copy-pasting from external dashboards
- —
MCP tools appear alongside built-in tools like file reading and terminal access, creating a unified agentic environment
- —
VS Code extension compatibility means your existing workflow, keybindings, and extensions all work alongside MCP tools

Frequently asked questions
Where do I recover the operational Trimble API Key?
Navigate smoothly into your authorized corporate sphere residing on the developer.trimble.com suite. Look closely at the primary headers locating your Applications or API Access portal hub. Designate a new instance or inspect an existing module tied to Mapping/PC*MILER bounds, copy the immutable token securely generated, and inject it flawlessly right below.
Will `route_avoiding_roads` block major US interstates dynamically?
Yes. This precise endpoint takes an array/string argument of roads to systematically avoid. Instruct the agent to evade specific highways, and Trimble's underlying algorithm recalculates the mathematical vectors completely rendering a path rejecting that specific asphalt footprint unconditionally.
What is the lifespan of my Trimble API access token?
Trimble access tokens obtained via OAuth generally have a short lifespan, typically expiring after 60 minutes. Your MCP integration handles this internally by automatically renewing it using refresh processes when necessary, so no manual intervention is required.
What is Agent mode and why does it matter for MCP?
Agent mode is Cursor's autonomous execution mode where the AI can perform multi-step tasks: reading files, editing code, running terminal commands, and calling MCP tools. Without Agent mode, Cursor operates in a simpler ask-and-answer mode that doesn't support tool calling. Always ensure you're in Agent mode when working with MCP servers.
Where does Cursor store MCP configuration?
Cursor looks for MCP server configurations in a mcp.json file. You can configure servers at the project level (.cursor/mcp.json in your project root) or globally (~/.cursor/mcp.json). Project-level configs take precedence.
Can Cursor use MCP tools in inline edits?
No. MCP tools are only available in Agent mode through the chat panel. Inline completions and Tab suggestions do not trigger MCP tool calls. This is by design. tool calls require user visibility and approval.
How do I verify MCP tools are loaded?
Open Settings → Features → MCP and look for your server name. A green indicator means the server is connected. You can also check Agent mode's available tools by clicking the tools dropdown in the chat panel.
Tools not appearing in Cursor
Ensure you are in Agent mode (not Ask mode). MCP tools only work in Agent mode.
