Xray (Test Management)

What is the Xray (Test Management) MCP Server?

Connect your Xray Test Management account to any AI agent and manage your quality assurance workflows through natural conversation.

What you can do

  • Test Case Discovery — List and browse all test cases within your project and retrieve unique test keys (e.g., TST-1) for deep inspection
  • Execution Monitoring — List and track test execution records to monitor real-time QA results and overall release readiness
  • Granular Results — Retrieve detailed results for specific executions to see which steps passed, failed, or encountered errors
  • Test Planning — Browse high-level test plans and retrieve scope details to understand your testing strategy and progress
  • Logical Grouping — List test sets to see how individual test cases are organized into functional or regression groups
  • Historical Auditing — Retrieve the complete run history for a single test across multiple execution cycles to identify flaky tests
  • Project Config — Verify environment settings and status mappings to ensure your agent is aligned with your project's workflow

How it works

  1. Subscribe to this server
  2. Enter your Xray Client ID and Client Secret
  3. Start managing your QA library through Claude, Cursor, or any MCP-compatible client

No more manual filtering through complex Jira issue lists to find a test result. Your AI agent becomes your QA operations analyst.

Who is this for?

  • QA Engineers — monitor test execution results and audit test case history through simple chat commands
  • Test Managers — quickly surface test plan progress and verify test set organization without manual navigation
  • Product Owners — check the latest execution status before releases to ensure quality standards are met
  • Developers — lookup test steps and preconditions for failed executions to rapidly debug issues

Why Cursor?

Cursor's Agent mode turns Xray (Test Management) into an in-editor superpower. Ask Cursor to generate code using live data from Xray (Test Management) and it fetches, processes, and writes. all in a single agentic loop. 9 tools appear alongside file editing and terminal access, creating a unified development environment grounded in real-time information.

  • Agent mode turns Cursor into an autonomous coding assistant that can read files, run commands, and call MCP tools without switching context

  • Cursor's Composer feature can generate entire files using real-time data fetched through MCP. no copy-pasting from external dashboards

  • MCP tools appear alongside built-in tools like file reading and terminal access, creating a unified agentic environment

  • VS Code extension compatibility means your existing workflow, keybindings, and extensions all work alongside MCP tools

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

01

Can I check the specific steps of a test case through the agent?

Yes. The get_test_details tool allows your AI agent to retrieve the full technical metadata for any test key, including the defined test steps, preconditions, and any linked requirement issues.

02

How do I find out which tests failed in a recent execution?

You can use the get_execution_details tool. Provide the unique execution key, and your agent will return a granular breakdown of the results, highlighting tests that failed or were aborted.

03

Is it possible to see the progress of a test plan via chat?

Absolutely. Using the get_test_plan_details tool, your agent can retrieve the scope and real-time progress metrics for any plan ID, helping you monitor overall QA coverage for a release.

04

What is Agent mode and why does it matter for MCP?

Agent mode is Cursor's autonomous execution mode where the AI can perform multi-step tasks: reading files, editing code, running terminal commands, and calling MCP tools. Without Agent mode, Cursor operates in a simpler ask-and-answer mode that doesn't support tool calling. Always ensure you're in Agent mode when working with MCP servers.

05

Where does Cursor store MCP configuration?

Cursor looks for MCP server configurations in a mcp.json file. You can configure servers at the project level (.cursor/mcp.json in your project root) or globally (~/.cursor/mcp.json). Project-level configs take precedence.

06

Can Cursor use MCP tools in inline edits?

No. MCP tools are only available in Agent mode through the chat panel. Inline completions and Tab suggestions do not trigger MCP tool calls. This is by design. tool calls require user visibility and approval.

07

How do I verify MCP tools are loaded?

Open Settings → Features → MCP and look for your server name. A green indicator means the server is connected. You can also check Agent mode's available tools by clicking the tools dropdown in the chat panel.

08

Tools not appearing in Cursor

Ensure you are in Agent mode (not Ask mode). MCP tools only work in Agent mode.
