AudD Music Recognition

What is the AudD Music Recognition MCP Server?

Equip your AI agent with the power of AudD, the leading music recognition and data platform. This integration allows your agent to identify songs from audio URLs, search for track information by title or artist, and retrieve full lyrics or snippets. Your agent can also find direct streaming links for identified tracks on platforms like Spotify and Apple Music. Whether you are identifying a background track from a video or searching for that one song with a specific lyric, your agent acts as a dedicated musicologist through natural conversation.

What you can do

  • Music Recognition — Identify songs from publicly accessible audio URLs with high precision.
  • Lyrics Search — Find full lyrics or search for songs using fragments of text.
  • Metadata Retrieval — Fetch detailed track, artist, and album information including release dates and labels.
  • Streaming Links — Get direct URLs to listen to identified tracks on major music platforms.
  • Timecode Identification — Start recognition from a specific offset to identify songs in long audio files.

How it works

  1. Subscribe to this server
  2. Enter your AudD API Token
  3. Start managing your music discovery from Claude, Cursor, or any MCP-compatible client

Who is this for?

  • Content Creators — identify background music in videos or find tracks for their productions.
  • Music Enthusiasts — search for lyrics and find where to stream their favorite songs.
  • Developers — integrate music identification capabilities into their AI workflows.
  • Researchers — analyze music metadata and release histories across a massive database.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

01

Can I identify a song just by providing a link to an MP3 file?

Yes! Use the recognize_music tool and provide the direct URL to the audio file. Your agent will identify the track and provide metadata and streaming links.

02

How do I find the lyrics for a song if I only know a few words?

You can use the search_lyrics tool with those words. Your agent will search AudD's database for matching lyrics and return the full text and song details.

03

Can I get direct links to open the song on Spotify or Apple Music?

Yes, when identifying a song or searching for one, you can request extra data that includes direct streaming links for various platforms.

04

Which VS Code version supports MCP?

MCP support requires VS Code 1.99 or later with the GitHub Copilot extension. Ensure both are updated to the latest version. Older versions of Copilot may not expose the Agent mode toggle.

05

How do I switch to Agent mode?

Open the Copilot Chat panel and look for two mode options: "Ask" and "Agent". Click "Agent" to enable autonomous tool calling. In Ask mode, Copilot provides conversational answers but cannot invoke MCP tools.

06

Can I restrict which MCP tools Copilot can access?

Yes. VS Code shows a tool consent dialog before any MCP tool is invoked for the first time. You can also configure tool access policies at the organization level through GitHub Copilot settings.

07

Does MCP work in VS Code Remote or Codespaces?

Yes. MCP servers configured via .vscode/mcp.json work in Remote SSH, WSL, and GitHub Codespaces environments. The MCP connection is established from the remote host, so ensure the server URL is accessible from that environment.

08

MCP tools not available

Ensure you are in Agent mode in Copilot Chat. MCP tools only appear in Agent mode.
