What is the Lingyi Wanwu MCP Server?
Connect your AI agents to Lingyi Wanwu (01.AI), the high-performance AI lab founded by Dr. Kai-Fu Lee. This MCP provides 10 tools to automate interactions with the Yi series of large language models, including state-of-the-art chat completions, semantic embeddings, and account usage monitoring.
What you can do
- Yi Model Interaction — Trigger chat completions with Yi-34B, Yi-Large, and other optimized models using persistent context
- Vector Embeddings — Generate high-dimensional semantic embeddings to power advanced RAG and search workflows
- Model Intelligence — List all available models and retrieve granular technical specifications for each version
- Account Management — Monitor your token consumption and balance programmatically to optimize costs
How it works
- Subscribe to this server
- Log in to the Lingyi Wanwu Developer Platform
- Navigate to API Keys and generate a new key
- Identify the model you wish to use (e.g.,
yi-largeoryi-34b-chat-0205) - Insert your API Key into the field below to start managing your Yi model workflows.
Who is this for?
- AI Developers — automate the integration of high-performance bilingual (EN/CN) models into custom apps
- Knowledge Engineers — build RAG pipelines using Lingyi Wanwu's optimized embedding services
- System Integrators — bridge enterprise platforms with the efficient and powerful Yi foundation models
Built-in capabilities (5)

Why VS Code Copilot?
GitHub Copilot Agent mode brings Lingyi Wanwu data directly into your VS Code workflow. With a project-scoped config, the entire team shares access to 5 tools. Copilot queries live data, generates typed code, and writes tests from actual API responses, all without leaving the editor.
- —
VS Code is used by over 70% of developers. adding MCP tools to Copilot means your team can leverage external data without leaving their primary editor
- —
Project-scoped MCP configs (
.vscode/mcp.json) let you commit server configurations to your repository, ensuring the entire team shares the same tool access - —
Copilot's Agent mode integrates MCP tools seamlessly with file editing, terminal commands, and workspace search in a single agentic loop
- —
GitHub's enterprise compliance and audit features extend to MCP tool usage, providing visibility into how AI interacts with external services

Frequently asked questions
Which Yi model is best for complex reasoning?
For complex reasoning and high-quality outputs, yi-large is recommended. For faster response times and cost efficiency, yi-medium or yi-spark are excellent alternatives.
Can I automatically retrieve my remaining account balance?
Yes! Use the get_balance tool. Your agent will connect to the Lingyi Wanwu billing service and return your current remaining credits.
How do I list all the technical specs for the Yi models?
Use the list_models tool. Your agent will retrieve a list of all models currently available on the platform, along with their IDs and capabilities.
Which VS Code version supports MCP?
MCP support requires VS Code 1.99 or later with the GitHub Copilot extension. Ensure both are updated to the latest version. Older versions of Copilot may not expose the Agent mode toggle.
How do I switch to Agent mode?
Open the Copilot Chat panel and look for two mode options: "Ask" and "Agent". Click "Agent" to enable autonomous tool calling. In Ask mode, Copilot provides conversational answers but cannot invoke MCP tools.
Can I restrict which MCP tools Copilot can access?
Yes. VS Code shows a tool consent dialog before any MCP tool is invoked for the first time. You can also configure tool access policies at the organization level through GitHub Copilot settings.
Does MCP work in VS Code Remote or Codespaces?
Yes. MCP servers configured via .vscode/mcp.json work in Remote SSH, WSL, and GitHub Codespaces environments. The MCP connection is established from the remote host, so ensure the server URL is accessible from that environment.
MCP tools not available
Ensure you are in Agent mode in Copilot Chat. MCP tools only appear in Agent mode.
