Connect your Fivetran account to any AI agent and take full control of your automated data movement and ELT pipelines through natural conversation.

What you can do

  • Connector Orchestration — List all connectors within specific groups and retrieve detailed configuration, synced schema details, and setup states natively
  • Destination Auditing — Retrieve configuration details for destination databases or data warehouses connected to your groups to verify delivery boundaries
  • Group Management — List all groups (destinations) created in your Fivetran account and extract identifiers and creation metadata limitlessly
  • Sync State Monitoring — Identify precise active sync statuses and validate physical data movement progress across your organizational pipelines securely
  • User & Team Oversight — Enumerate all registered users and RBAC teams in the workspace to monitor access levels and administrative status flawlessy
  • Pipeline Discovery — Analyze specific localized variables decoding active data routes and extracting hidden structural constraints within your ELT flows

Why Cursor?

Cursor's Agent mode turns Fivetran into an in-editor superpower. Ask Cursor to generate code using live data from Fivetran and it fetches, processes, and writes. all in a single agentic loop. 7 tools appear alongside file editing and terminal access, creating a unified development environment grounded in real-time information.

  • Agent mode turns Cursor into an autonomous coding assistant that can read files, run commands, and call MCP tools without switching context

  • Cursor's Composer feature can generate entire files using real-time data fetched through MCP. no copy-pasting from external dashboards

  • MCP tools appear alongside built-in tools like file reading and terminal access, creating a unified agentic environment

  • VS Code extension compatibility means your existing workflow, keybindings, and extensions all work alongside MCP tools

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

01

Can my agent list all connectors in a specific Fivetran group?

Yes. Use the 'list_connectors' tool. Provide the Group ID, and the agent will return a list of all connectors configured within that destination group, including their unique IDs and statuses.

02

How do I check the details of a specific data destination via chat?

Use the 'get_destination' tool. Provide the Group ID. Your agent will retrieve configuration details about the database or data warehouse connected to that group, providing clear boundary information natively.

03

Can I audit users and their roles in my Fivetran workspace through the agent?

Absolutely. Use the 'list_users' tool. The agent retrieves all registered users in your workspace with their assigned roles and current statuses, allowing for organizational administrative auditing natively.

04

What is Agent mode and why does it matter for MCP?

Agent mode is Cursor's autonomous execution mode where the AI can perform multi-step tasks: reading files, editing code, running terminal commands, and calling MCP tools. Without Agent mode, Cursor operates in a simpler ask-and-answer mode that doesn't support tool calling. Always ensure you're in Agent mode when working with MCP servers.

05

Where does Cursor store MCP configuration?

Cursor looks for MCP server configurations in a mcp.json file. You can configure servers at the project level (.cursor/mcp.json in your project root) or globally (~/.cursor/mcp.json). Project-level configs take precedence.

06

Can Cursor use MCP tools in inline edits?

No. MCP tools are only available in Agent mode through the chat panel. Inline completions and Tab suggestions do not trigger MCP tool calls. This is by design. tool calls require user visibility and approval.

07

How do I verify MCP tools are loaded?

Open Settings → Features → MCP and look for your server name. A green indicator means the server is connected. You can also check Agent mode's available tools by clicking the tools dropdown in the chat panel.

08

Tools not appearing in Cursor

Ensure you are in Agent mode (not Ask mode). MCP tools only work in Agent mode.
