What is the Kameleoon MCP Server?

Empower your AI agents to control your Kameleoon experimentation platform. This MCP server enables seamless management of experiments, variations, and audience segments directly from natural language interfaces.

What you can do

  • Experiment Control — List all active experiments and drill down into specific configurations and metadata
  • Variation Management — Inspect A/B variations and their statuses across different digital properties
  • Site Inventory — Query all sites and properties registered in your account to ensure correct environment targeting
  • Audience Segmentation — List defined audience segments and targeting rules used for precise traffic allocation
  • Results Triggering — Request latest results reports to analyze experiment performance on the fly

How it works

  1. Subscribe to this server
  2. Enter your Kameleoon Client ID and Client Secret
  3. Start managing your A/B tests and personalization from Claude, Cursor, or any MCP client

Who is this for?

  • Product Managers — Monitor the status of live experiments and check variants without logging into the Kameleoon dashboard
  • Growth Engineers — Quickly query targeting rules and custom data dimensions from your IDE

Why VS Code Copilot?

GitHub Copilot Agent mode brings Kameleoon data directly into your VS Code workflow. With a project-scoped config, the entire team shares access to 10 tools. Copilot queries live data, generates typed code, and writes tests from actual API responses, all without leaving the editor.

  • VS Code is used by over 70% of developers. adding MCP tools to Copilot means your team can leverage external data without leaving their primary editor

  • Project-scoped MCP configs (.vscode/mcp.json) let you commit server configurations to your repository, ensuring the entire team shares the same tool access

  • Copilot's Agent mode integrates MCP tools seamlessly with file editing, terminal commands, and workspace search in a single agentic loop

  • GitHub's enterprise compliance and audit features extend to MCP tool usage, providing visibility into how AI interacts with external services

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

01

How can I check if an experiment is currently active on a specific site?

Use the list_experiments tool to get a summary of all experiments, which includes their current status (e.g., 'ACTIVE', 'PAUSED') and assigned site IDs.

02

Can I see the defined variations for a particular experiment?

Yes, the list_variations tool takes an experiment ID and returns all variants configured for that test, along with their metadata.

03

Is it possible to list targeting rules and segments?

Absolutely. You can use the list_segments and list_targeting_rules tools to inspect how your traffic is being allocated across your experimentation ecosystem.

04

Which VS Code version supports MCP?

MCP support requires VS Code 1.99 or later with the GitHub Copilot extension. Ensure both are updated to the latest version. Older versions of Copilot may not expose the Agent mode toggle.

05

How do I switch to Agent mode?

Open the Copilot Chat panel and look for two mode options: "Ask" and "Agent". Click "Agent" to enable autonomous tool calling. In Ask mode, Copilot provides conversational answers but cannot invoke MCP tools.

06

Can I restrict which MCP tools Copilot can access?

Yes. VS Code shows a tool consent dialog before any MCP tool is invoked for the first time. You can also configure tool access policies at the organization level through GitHub Copilot settings.

07

Does MCP work in VS Code Remote or Codespaces?

Yes. MCP servers configured via .vscode/mcp.json work in Remote SSH, WSL, and GitHub Codespaces environments. The MCP connection is established from the remote host, so ensure the server URL is accessible from that environment.

08

MCP tools not available

Ensure you are in Agent mode in Copilot Chat. MCP tools only appear in Agent mode.
