What is the Sunsama MCP Server?

Integrate the mindful focus of the Sunsama daily planner directly into your conversational AI environment. Empower your engineering or administrative focus by allowing your LLM to intuitively pull tasks, filter backlog activities, and assign contexts dynamically without constant tab-switching. With this MCP connector attached securely to your workspace, your conversational agent functions as an objective scheduling assistant, seamlessly tracking and resolving your agenda.

What you can do

  • Agenda Discovery — Query your scheduled events actively using list_tasks and retrieve deep contextual dependencies of an item utilizing get_task_details.
  • Task Orchestration — Add new action items seamlessly via create_task or modify ongoing assignments intuitively using update_task.
  • Taxonomy Mapping — Review your organizational frameworks executing list_channels and list_contexts to accurately file items according to team domains.
  • Profile Confirmations — Safely extract your user metadata boundaries and operational statuses natively invoking get_user_profile.

How it works

  1. Enable the Sunsama MCP module orchestrator as an active system integration.
  2. Bind your verified SUNSAMA_API_KEY directly from your workspace parameters precisely to your environment matrix.
  3. Instruct your artificial intelligence concisely: "Analyze my pending tasks for today, generate a new assigned block under the 'Development' channel, and mark yesterday's review as completed."

Who is this for?

  • Founders & Executives — Mitigate schedule conflicts iteratively without breaking focus, directing agenda adjustments via an analytical AI agent.
  • Software Engineers — Centralize your daily planned agenda cleanly inside your IDE or local conversational CLI, reporting progress directly in real-time.
  • Project Managers — Consolidate activities safely tracking team deliverables and personal timelines without bloated secondary interfaces.

  • VS Code is used by over 70% of developers. adding MCP tools to Copilot means your team can leverage external data without leaving their primary editor

  • Project-scoped MCP configs (.vscode/mcp.json) let you commit server configurations to your repository, ensuring the entire team shares the same tool access

  • Copilot's Agent mode integrates MCP tools seamlessly with file editing, terminal commands, and workspace search in a single agentic loop

  • GitHub's enterprise compliance and audit features extend to MCP tool usage, providing visibility into how AI interacts with external services

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

01

Are organizational channels safely isolated when using programmatic executions?

Yes. The AI intrinsically utilizes list_channels and list_contexts effectively to accurately parse pre-existing frameworks before assignment seamlessly.

02

Can the agent inadvertently destroy historical tracking via deletion?

The tool bounds the logic reliably using isolated mutation calls like delete_task. These are triggered explicitly, protecting chronological historical records systematically effectively internally.

03

Does the integration sync with external calendars like Google Calendar?

The MCP operates through the Sunsama API, which already consolidates events from Google Calendar, Outlook, and other connected services. Tasks you create or update via the AI will appear alongside your synced calendar events.

04

Which VS Code version supports MCP?

MCP support requires VS Code 1.99 or later with the GitHub Copilot extension. Ensure both are updated to the latest version. Older versions of Copilot may not expose the Agent mode toggle.

05

How do I switch to Agent mode?

Open the Copilot Chat panel and look for two mode options: "Ask" and "Agent". Click "Agent" to enable autonomous tool calling. In Ask mode, Copilot provides conversational answers but cannot invoke MCP tools.

06

Can I restrict which MCP tools Copilot can access?

Yes. VS Code shows a tool consent dialog before any MCP tool is invoked for the first time. You can also configure tool access policies at the organization level through GitHub Copilot settings.

07

Does MCP work in VS Code Remote or Codespaces?

Yes. MCP servers configured via .vscode/mcp.json work in Remote SSH, WSL, and GitHub Codespaces environments. The MCP connection is established from the remote host, so ensure the server URL is accessible from that environment.

08

MCP tools not available

Ensure you are in Agent mode in Copilot Chat. MCP tools only appear in Agent mode.
